Melbourne Based People - How long to work?
Howdy all. Not using my usual handle as this post would make my boss ask me if I had 'other intentions.....' So here goes:
There is a chance that I will be taking up employment at Tullamarine in the next 6 months or so. I was wondering where people live who work at Tulla and how long it takes them to drive to work? In particular, Romsey, Lancefield, Darraweit Guim, Kilmore and Wallan. Mrs Benaud and I are looking to live out of the city a bit, so any advice on what towns are like to live in would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Super Effort That!

Romsey is about 30-35 mins....Lancefield is another 10 or so. However, if u do end up in either of those two places, make sure u tell the locals that the missus is actually your cousin & you'll fit in right!
Try Mickleham, it's only 15-20mins & closer to this century!

Depends upon the time of day you'll be going to work. Currently, traffic on the Sunbury-Bulla-Tullamarine road is woeful during the morning, from 0700-0900. What used to be a 25 minute drive to work, Riddells Creek to Essendon, can take anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour. Romsey, Lancefield, DG, etc all route in this way (unless you take the Wildwood Road back way). Out of morning rush hour, the trip will take 20 minutes to Tulla from Riddell.
Gisborne is quite popular, with the duplication of the Calder the trip to Tulla takes about 20 minutes, although still subject to morning traffic snarls.
All times quoted at the speed limit, of course

You'll like Melbourne. The best illuminated cemetry in the World!
If you don't like the weather, wait five minutes for the change.
Melbourne is not the end of the World - but you can see it from there.

...said Torres, whilst sitting on the porch in his rocking chair. His banjo across his lap whilst listening to his cousin, whom he just married, makes squeling pig noises out back!
Ahhh Queensland, beautiful one day, Hanson'd the next!

Have you considered out to the North East such as Hurstbridge. A very quiet area, reasonably priced, rural, friendly, close to the Kinglake National Park and about half an hour to the airport via the ring road (watch for the speed camera's under the bridges).

Thanks very much for that. A marvellous effort all round!
I shall take your advice on board if the plan goes ahead.
For reynoldsno1, yes, I am just trying to be funny. I am not Ritchie Benaud.....or am I? Super joke that! Realy funny stuff!
Just one further question, what are the prices like out that way now and what is the future looking like? Cheers,

Prices?
Sunbury featured in the Saturday Age as one of the fast growing property deals. Current median price for Sunbury around $200k, Riddells Creek is steaming ahead (quite a few 1-2 acre blocks available around $85-100k, IIRC), Gisborne is also affordable, but demand is outstripping supply. Prices have risen about 20+% for all three in the past year.
Don't know about the "other" side of town, but there are a lot of estate developments on the Hume Highway strip. Also a decent amount of land still available at Hidden Valley, the ex Holmes A'Court land at Wallan, but fairly high prices. Attractive if you like golf, though.

Not sure of your stage in life, but I'd recommend St.Kilda, as far as Lifestyle goes, and cop the 40 min to get to the Tullamarine.
As a side, it always amazes me the negativity towards Mel, Melbournites couldnt give a fog about the opinions of the NSW/QLDers , or is that the problem.
