Spelling Nazi

or should that be Yank?

Typos aside, I feel compelled to mention that if submitting applications with similar spelling & grammatical mistakes as are seen in many posts on PPRuNe, one's potential to secure a position may well be less than it might otherwise have been.

It's all well and good to say that it doesn't matter, for you fool only yourself.

What say you Gaunty?

Grrr

Dan

Two bluddy write!

It's apawling.

The standard of speling and gramar arownd hear is just plain atroshus.

I onestly dont now wear they got there edumacashun.

Being able to fly the plain is the easy bit, but not being able to spel or expres yourself proper, just reveels the lack of a properly rounded person considered suitable to take command of a plain worth many many millions of dollars, full of fair paying pasengers.

It's all well and good to say that it doesn't matter, for you fool only yourself.
When you ask yourself, why him not me? go look in the mirror and then run your CV through a spell and grammar checker. You will be surprised.
And then go and get some professional help or advice in sparking it up, this is your life you are dealing with here.

Getting the interview is the really, really, really, really hard part, your inability to take those really simple steps, simply as a matter of good manners and out of respect for the interviewer will ensure that you won't get it.

Right you nazi. I have to reply to this. Ok fair enough, I agree that when you send in a letter of application you should ensure that all the spelling and grammar is correct. Fine.

I dont see why people like you sit there and go through these posts and spot spelling mistakes and such. I think its kind of sad that people like you even bother to point out these mistakes. Quite often they are obviously typos. And guess what, sometimes the person is not sure of the spelling! I know I cant spell every word in the dictionary, can you?

Anyway if I continue, I will start to venture into making pointless posts like the one you made.

Enough said.

All the best tiger.

Quite often they are obviously typos.
...and sum times they are either jus plane lazy, or the product of an education sistem what didn't plaice enuff empfasis on CORRECT speling from an early age.

Re-reed Gaunty's post - espshelly the last 2 paragrafs!!

Angel helldog

It seems that I may have hit a nerve?

People like me don't sit here looking for typos. Because we know how to spell, or when in doubt look the word up in a dictionary, spelling and grammatical errors stick out like the gonads of a fighting dog, as so elloquently put by Kaptin M, and as evidenced by the use of your instead of you're in an earlier post on this thread.

No, I can't spell every word in the dictionary. Infact only this morning, on another thread, I wasn't sure of the spelling of succinct. So I opened another explorer window, conducted a Google Search for an online dictionary, typed my spelling attempt in the search window, and hey presto, had my guess at the spelling confirmed.

This little effort on my behalf, avoided me falling foul of the spelling nazis like myself, Gaunty, Kap, etc. etc.

I find if I right up my post in Word first, then do a spelling and grammar check and finally cut and past to Pprune, I won’t have other people on my back for my bad spelling and terrible grammar.

Just a thought.

Ezy OzEx, if ya do a C&P of Titan's post and put it into Word, it doesn't detect that "right" in this case is wrong - it only picks up on PPRuNe.

Some of the little "tricks" that we used in Primary school might help some of us to remember which is correct, when we aren't 100% sure, eg., "write" has an "e" in it - as in I write a letter;
stationery is for letters[/b], whereas stationary means to be stopped;
licence is the noun - as in ice...license is the verb, as in "I hereby license you to fly this SCUD!".

Apostrophes take the place of ommitted vowels (sounding syllables...a, e, i, o, u), so was not becomes wasn't, you are is you're.

The initial letter, or CV, that you submit will make a BIG impression - if it's loaded with glaring grammatical errors.........the WRONG impression!!
Because although you are not applying for an English teacher's position (and I know some interesting English teachers' positions as I'm sure OzEx also does!!), FIRST IMPRESSIONS, do count.

Good advice, Titan, even tho' it takes a little longer (plus Word is bastardised English - the Septic version.), but better than rong speling on a pubic forum.

Oops. I forgot to mention it is also a good idea to proof read what you have just written. Not a very good mistake to make when you are talking about peoples spelling.

Yeah KM, I'm aware of the problems associated with dependence on any spell-checker. That was actually the point I was trying to make, in me typically clumsy way... Some of the English teachers in this part of the world are indeed... interesting!

I was pretty sure, when I made the post, that 404 Titan would know that I was just taking the p!ss...
