Didnt we just change from the credit card type of licence back to the paper thing. That was a complete disaster.

Anyone else notice how after replacing the pages in that lurvley plastic folder 1/2 the printing sticks to the plastic, rendering the new pages totally unreadable.

Bring back the old old style licences I say!

Bevan..

"Bring back the old style licences I say!"

Which old style are you talking about? The plastic card, the old paper book licence or perhaps you may remember the days when a civilian pilot licence had a photo of the pilot in it............

Photographs on pilot licence is nothing new I believe they had them in the licence back in the 1960’s

I manage to get one of the old book type licences, the one with the three arrows in al directions on the front, a long time ago and have managed to keep it despite efforts from the Dept to take it off me. Whenever I have to get anything added to it by them I take it in, in person and make it very clear that I want it back on the spot.
I refused to get one of those credit card type licences years ago, and stuck with the old fashioned one.

I have the same book sort (with the cloth binder not the tacky plastic thing) that 18Wheeler has and a plastic CC type.

I prefer the convenience/portability of the CC type but like the listing of qualifications in the old book type.

The CC type is bloody convenient. Leave it & my medical in my wallet & I'm never caught without it. It would be better if it had small print on it that lists ratings though. Cheap enough to do. If Walt Disney can use them for park tickets I can't see why CASA can't do them cheaply.

I also have a UK licence. It's a bloody awful thing. I suspect the new Oz book licence is similar. It's too large to fit in a shirt pocket so must be carried in something and the print comes off the pages onto the plastic inserts. Space is wasted on every pages due to the desire to have a separate A4 pages for each different section. Typical JAR crap...

My US one is also conveniently wallet size. Guess why it ALWAYS happens to be with me when I fly?

Smile Credit Card size Photo Licences

About to become a reality and certainly well overdue.
Licences blanks will probably be issued to Motor Registry's for issue (as with the gun licences etc). You will take an 'authority' to the registry and 'hey presto', a licence will be issued. It will have only basic information and tghe remaining information will be captured in your log books and flight credentials sheet.
The new system will finally allow for the licence to be carried in a user-friendly format and will possibly stop a very serious problem presently being experienced in this country. That is people who suffer from diabeties and other problems presenting someone else to the doctor for a blood test etc. There are a couple of local cases where the 'brother' appears annually for the blood test part of the medical!!!
About time and a bloody good change for the better I say!

Bugga!!!. If you think CASA is slow with sending paperwork around the place you wanna see how slow the MVR mob are. I pay for my licence and it takes near three months [to get the photo card back. they aught to work in together real nice.

Can't say that I would disagree with the move to a photo licence as nearly every other licence/permit/whatever is along those lines.
I also agree with the post re the lates book style licence. Far too flamin' big to carry in anything other than a flight bag.
