Travel/Health Insurance Coverage for Flight School in the US

Hi,I am an Australian citizen preparing to move to the United States in August to pursue flight training. I am seeking comprehensive travel OR health insurance that includes coverage for accidents or injuries related to flying, given my enrollment in a flight school program.

After extensive research, all of the policies I have looked at (flight or health) have excluded flying. Does anyone else have any similar experiences of recommendations? I'm thinking if worst comes to worst, I'll go without the flying coverage but ideally I would like to find a policy that does cover.

Thanks!

Somewhat related, while you’re on the subject, consider additional insurance for the aircraft that you will be flying.
Even a little ding can get very expensive and even though the school may carry hull insurance the deductible may be very high.
Maybe look at AOPA for help with both.

Medical costs in the USA are eye watering, be sure you have good coverage from a reputable underwriter. Emphasis on reputable.

You may possibly be better off getting international health insurance as opposed to travel insurance, like Bupa International. I don’t know much about the cost of it, but I dare say it’ll be cheaper than travel insurance?

Can the School recommend anything?
Surely this would be a common problem if they have non-US training clients.

Be cautious.
Some schools push for a $3-$5/hr up charge to ‘buy off’ the insurance deductible which they may claim is $5000 or higher.
Everyone thinks it’s a great deal, still doesn’t let you off the hook entirely if the insurance company decides to go after you.
I know of a school that rakes in $30,000 a year with that scam.
Which means they can cover an entire hull loss of a C152/Pa28/C172 in a little over a year, while they don’t actually hold hull insurance just liability.
Hull insurance is not required in the USA.
Don’t get me started on medical doctors in the USA. Health care is a full blown commercial operation. You come in with a sore throat and leave with an MRI and a full skin cancer screening and a recommendation for a sleep apnea study.
I’m only very marginally exaggerating here
There’s a reason why this country invented the “second opinion”…… as your first MD might be trying to royally shaft you.

B2N2 is correct about the medical industry in the USA.. Get the best insurance regardless of cost.

Medical expenses in the USA is the #1 cause of personal bankruptcies.
