Do RAAus Intructor Hours count towards a CASA grade 2 instructor rating?

Do RAAus ab-initio hours count towards grade 2 and grade 1 instructor ratings?

I'm under the assumption that they don't but I've been told by some people they do and by others they count as half.

No they do not. We’ve spoken to CASA and a definite no.

I haven't looked since Part 61 came into existence, but a certain amount of RA-Aus hours could be counted towards CPL minutes hours under the old regime.

Last I checked you could count 750 RA hours towards ATPL. Could be wrong though..

Actually, they can count towards grade 2 and 1. To achieve this though you must be working for school that teaches both RAA and GA under the same CASA approved syllabus. RAA will accept CASA syllabus too. Needless to say you will also be doing both. Probably also need CASA permission/dispensation these days. Had it in a previous school i was CFI at. No hard and fast rule it seems.

Soar aviation got into trouble counting RAAus hours for their GA instructors and CASA hardened their stand to a flat “not allowed under any circumstance”.

Everyone knows that teaching straight and level in a GA plane takes much more skill than the same instructor doing the same lesson in a RAAus aircraft. 😖

Best bet is to contact CASA here: Flight crew licensing enquiries | Civil Aviation Safety Authority (casa.gov.au)

You are going to get different answers, they are all opinions, the one that matters is the regulators.

If it makes sense to allow something then if CASA hasn't disallowed it they will after it can cause the most disruption and cost to the end user.
