C206 VH-MZL destroyed in takeoff accident in PNG on 7th June 2023

The Australian operation of the 'Strickland Bosavi Foundation', Cessna C206 based at Mareeba, Nth Queensland, was destroyed during an aborted takeoff roll at Dodomona in Western Province, Papua New Guinea, on 7th June 2023

The pilot and two passengers sustained only minor injuries. The photograph supplied by the pilot to PNG AIC would rather suggest the pax and crew were very lucky. The aircraft was previously owned by MAF.

VH-MZL and VH-ITV are regular visitor to PNG.

It appears they had a bit of cushioning when they landed inverted, which certainly was lucky. The consequences of landing inverted onto solid ground is generally fatal or severe injuries, as seen with the 210 which flipped on solid rock over in Groote the other week, many are still in hospital with severe injuries.

I’m surprised that they are still operating pistons out there, must be a logistical nightmare to get fuel.

Off the topic a bit, thought I saw the Beaver that was previously based at Gurney down at Proserpine a few weeks ago.
