accessing an Accident Report from 1968
I am trying to access the report of an accident involving an Aero Commander near Port Lincoln on Feb 24 1968 Having a devil of a job trying to find out. ATSB / TROVE giving me the run around. I find these sites not very user friendly. Does anyone know if it is possible to access these reports ?

One of the 'stickyed' threads up there ^^^^^ on The Pacific: General Aviation & Questions forum is "Aviation Safety Digests now available Digital". Perhaps the ASD's for circa 1968 will contain useful information?

Aero Commander 500B
When descending for a low pass over smooth glassy water in the course of instrument calibration, the pilot misjudged his height and the aircraft struck the water.

T 5...Thanks for that.. Am hoping to see the Accident Report.
Capt F.....I spent a lot of time in the rhs of RMQ. Frightening to think that fatigue was doing its thing all the while. The 700 series was nice to handle but was a terrible envoirnment to work in. An ergonomic disaster.

It is possible that the reprots are now in the National Archives. For example the VH-MDX report, origional documents, are in the archives at Villawood in Sydney and also now available as a PDF download.
Nothing showing in the National Archives search engine.

In looking at other stuff, there is still a lot to be digitised.

When I was researching my part of the Chipmunk book, I discovered that ATSB (or whatever they were called that week) had disposed of their older files, and that they were sent to the appropriate state NAA section. But, as T5 states, there's a lot not yet digitalized.
