I think it's actually misleading, because if it says East, one would reasonably expect that the centre would be east, the left edge NE and the right edge SE. That isn't the case here though.

I agree that you shouldn't have ESE or SSW.

The cams just need to be re-aligned a bit. The ARO could do it with his shifter to you on the phone. Oh wait, OHS talking on phone in one hand and spanner in the other while on ladder...

Just for you… I’ll change it.

The guy was on the roof this morning in 39 degree heat AND on the phone! Oh the humanity!

Goodonya Squawk, pity I'll never be there to use them in anger, but I promise I'll check the Ceduna weather and cams once in a while to keep the BOM honest!

With a huge thanks again to DICK SMITH and a very active and accommodating camera host, Benambra (Lakeside strip) has just joined the weather camera network are appearing in your chosen EFB today (unless you use ForeFlight, because they don't have cameras). Dick really wanted to get cameras at Mt. Hotham, however due to a lack of progressive vision at that airport, it's not going to happen, so I've got the next best airport (in terms of distance) for you to use and enhance the safety of your future flights.

View in your EFB or hit the website here: https://myairportcams.com

This site is around the second of 24 sites that are getting new cameras as part of Dick's $10,000 donation.

A minor update.

Thus far thanks to Dick’s generous donation, we currently have up and running:

- Ceduna
- Northam
- Whyalla
- Benambra
- Naracoorte
- Hayman Island
- Irongate

16 more sites will follow over the next few weeks or so. These things take a bit of time unfortunately.

Big ones about to drop are:

- Coober Pedy
- William Creek
- Broken Hill
- Lilydale
- Mallacoota
- Orbost

Thanks again Dick!

I’ve taken a different approach at Hayman Island and used a 180 degree camera which is a bit of a change that seems to be working well. I’m a little limited in viewing realestate though within the EFB’s.

An update for everyone and a request for your assistance!

Progress has been excellent, the project has been going really well and is almost complete.

Summary:

- 25 sites are to be fitted with a total of 61 cameras
- 12 of these sites are on-line and published on the website, in OzRunways, AvPlan and Windy TV
- 6 sites are almost ready to have cameras shipped there, however for various reasons they aren't quite ready to receive them
- 7 sites have cameras that are awaiting installation for numerous reasons such as pole fabrication or final permission.

William Creek
Ballina
Nullabor Roadhouse (TBC)
Caiguna Roadhouse (TBC)
Ceduna
Coober Pedy
Lockhart River
Broken Hill
Benambra
Naracoorte
Hayman Island
Whyalla
Narrogin Gliding Club
Lilydale
FigTree Country Retreat
Mallacoota
Marlo
Newdegate Field Days strip WA
3 Hummock Island Tas
Northam
Avalon / Rothwell
Mt Hotham
Gloucester
Emm Kay Tee
Bremer Bay WA

Where do we need your help?

We've got enough cameras spare for around 5 new sites.

Please either post the details in here of where you think they would be welcomed, or hit me up with a Private Message.

Thanks :-)

Good observation thanks, I’ve just noticed that they are missing from OzRunways but are in AvPlan.

I’ve emailed them to let them know.

They reverted to their older lesser quality cameras during some renovations and will add the new ones back again soon.

Suggestions:
Karumba/Normanton. Checking OzRunways isn’t a gulf camera at all. The Bourketown camera is not that great. Perhaps another option also. I think a gulf camera would be of great use to many pilots, sure wish I had that aid 25 years ago.

Chillagoe/Georgetown

Great work on the rollout so far.

I probably owe you all an update which I’ll get to soon.

I have a request though…

Does anyone have any clout or knowledge of the setup at Ballina?

I have a set of weather cameras from Dick Smith waiting to be installed, but nowhere to put them.

The Aero Club said their view is not suitable.
The maintenance mob don’t have internet.
The helicopter have similar issues to the above.

I’ve attempted to contact the airport manager more than half a dozen times and have not received a callback or a response to my emails, so I can only make the assumption that they either are not interested or have other plans, perhaps with the BOM? I can’t tell as they aren’t calling back.

I have also contacted the council HQ to speak with the PA to the GM and haven’t made it past the person that answers the general enquires phone number.

Not being familiar with the airport, can anyone help me out with ideas here, be it another operator, charter mob, or perhaps a building across or down the road a bit or perhaps a caravan park or CFA.

Any leads welcome as we are simply trying to make aviation safer for everyone!

Relax: SFIS (and NOTAMs…) make Ballina ‘safe’.

It may be that the local council and the airport manager are like many others and, therefore, know diddly about what improves or detracts from safety on and in the vicinity of an aerodrome.

The next big one is up and running.

With yet another huge thanks to DICK SMITH and an equally big if not bigger thanks to Mike and the team at Consolidated Aircraft maintenance we now have 4 cameras for your use at Broken Hill. They are great as they are up high on a custom pole that took a lot of fabricating!

With any luck they will be appearing in your favourite EFB today.

(Sub in 1 thru 4 - I’m on my phone right now, too much copy pasting)

See these and more at https://myairportcams.com (when I add them after my holiday :-)

Ah yes you did. I’m in the USA at the moment sorry.

There has been movement at Ballina, for the word has passed around! Am waiting on a quote from someone for part of it.
