MCC/ Instructor Rating HECS opportunity - worth it??
G'day all, first time poster looking for some advice...
I've recently completed a Bachelor of Aviation at a Melbourne university, however to graduate I either have to complete or withdraw from the concurrent Graduate Certificate of Aviation. Completing this means undertaking either a FIR or MCC at the flight school where I completed my CPL and MECIR.
Just wondering if there's any actual real world benefit in taking an MCC for the jobs likely to be open to me over the next ~10 years? Will it look good on a resume down the track when the larger operator/ airline jobs open up? I'd be keen on taking the FIR, but at a different school lol.
What do you reckon?

Is a FIR throwing good money after bad? IE: are there any jobs for a newly minted Grade 3 instructor?
Flight training schools on the brink amid border closures, lack of pilot demand
Do you need a MCC?

Is it going to help you get a job?
If you think a FIR will help you get a job, and you have committed to finish the Graduate Certificate of Aviation, then maybe that's a way to go. If the MCC is the cheapest way to finish off all your studies, then do that. But personally, I don't believe the MCC is required.
Have you got all your ATPL subjects? That's where I'd be spending my time and money.

As much as I personally think that MCC courses are a rort and the learning outcomes are minimal (based on feedback from those who have done them recounting being taught by people who have never flown multi crew and covering Tenerife, again) the fact is that MCC will be needed for a multi crew turbine FO slot at a higher level GA operator. If you have one already you will be more employable, Immediate start etc.
FIR is a great skill to have as well. That can open up opportunities further down the track.

Cheers all for the invested responses, really appreciate it! I'm not too fussed about the non completion of the grad cert, as it was really only a means (approved VET course) to get the HECS for flying while completing the bachelor. I've completed almost all of the modules (PPL, CPL, ME, IR etc) and havent enrolled into the next stage yet (FIR/ MCC) so not beholden to census dates thankfully.
Thinking at this stage to defer the graduation until I can get a couple of weeks off work to do the MCC, and pay out of pocket for the FIR at a more suitable school at a later date when things start to pick back up again.

Currently got 6 of the 7 ATPLs, studying flat chat on the weekends to get FPL done by the end of the year. Been lucky enough to find a job with my other trade that'll put me through some other tickets useful to an operator (HR, DG, first aid, fork) and already have WWCC and RSA/G so plan is to transfer with them up north next year in time for dry season '22... hopefully things'll be looking a bit more normal for everyone by then!
