Light Plane missing Northern NSW

Not looking good. Left around 1400 for a one hour flight and never arrived. Here's hoping for a safe outcome.

More...A search is underway for a light aircraft overdue after leaving the Far North Coast yesterday destined for Queensland.

The single-engine aircraft, with two people on board, left Casino Airport about 2pm (Sunday 13 January 2020), and was due to arrive in Boonah about 3pm (NSW time).

When the plane failed to arrive as planned, and the pilot was unable to be contacted, a search was co-ordinated by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).

Two aircraft were deployed by AMSA to the area, with officers from Richmond Police District assisting in a ground search of the plane’s last-known location over Tooloom National Park; so far there is no sign of the aircraft.

Those with information about the missing plane are to urged to contact Triple Zero (000).

Just heard a Whitman Tailwind heading for Toowomba, not a great day to be flying over the range yesterday unfortunately.

Fingers crossed for a good outcome.

Possibly coming home from Evans Head ??

SUNDAY DISPLAYS GROUNDED AT EVANS HEAD GREAT EASTERN

THE Great Eastern Fly In Committee this morning has made the difficult decision to call off flying displays for the Sunday part of the event because of weather conditions and safety.

Overnight rain, strong winds and the forecast of more on the way during the day, as well as a very low cloud base, has led to the decision.

"It is very unfortunate, but the only thing we cannot control is the weather", GEFI president Gai Taylor said.

"At least Saturday was wonderful and the people who attended had a fantastic time".

Not the outcome we were hoping for. Wreckage located, no survivors apparent. RIP

Oh that's utterly tragic -(
I was only flying in that area recently with rather limited viz due smoke haze and a strong Sthl'y airflow, the turb over the great divide around Casino area was ugly to say the least! +3.5 & -2 G's at times, glad I was 5 pointed strapped in in my aerobatic machine!
RIP guys, taken way too early -(
