Licence & Ratings Required for 40,000 kg A/C

Hypothetical question based on Part 61

Ted & Alice are retired business types who hold CPL's IR and fly their CJ4 as a purely private aircaft, both are PIC type rated. As the CJ4 is below 8400 kg only a a class 2 medical is required and as it's a SP aircraft no MCC is required.

They decide to upgrade to a G4.....they are pretty cheap now.

Aircraft sale comes with 1 x PIC & 1 SIC training package as per FAA requirement. Does CASA accept US SIC any more? Is factory MCC training accepted by CASA

Does Ted who is always going to act as PIC have to upgrade to ATPL and a class 1 medical - remember this is a purely PVT aircraft.

The old system was straight forward to work out but Part 61 is as clear as mud.

Ted and Alice would need a G4 TR, PPL, MECIR/PIFR and MCC each. Not 100% on whether CASA accept US 2IC training, I think not.

If its purely PVT just keep it on the US reg

If the G4 weighs 40,000 kg it must have lots of extra avionics.

Ozgrade3,
The above is the really important bit, anybody who would put an aircraft on the VH- register when they didn't need to, has got rocks in their head.

Bugger CASA, more like the taxation people need to have a close look at what Ted and Alice are growing, cultivating, selling or are they retired bank executives?

Ex Qantas or Virgin board members who received standard remuneration and bonuses in line with negative company performance

Sorry, silly me..I should’ve read closer..the original post said that both people hold private licenses and jet ratings which would suggest some industry knowledge..obviously not Qantas or Virgin board members

The smaller Cessna Citations were designed as single pilot, to allow Texas oilmen who had made their fortunes to be able to fly themselves around.

Keep the G4 on the US register and obtain a US ATP at the time of doing the rating as it’s only a few days of extra studying for the written.
