Found an article on the Cairns Post website about it but I'm not yet able to post URLs.

Quick Google search for Mabuiag Island plane crash did the trick.

Cairns Post reports that the aircraft, a Cherokee 6, was landing when it suffered a nose wheel collapse.
The aircraft left the runway, hit a small building then travelled through a gate before stopping 10 metres from the runway. THe aircraft caught fire and was burnt out. The pilot, the sole POB, was uninjured .
The aircraft was landing at Mabulag Island.

I wonder what precipitated the nose wheel collapse?

Seems to have had plenty of energy after the collapse to travel some distance and it's a fair way off the centre line?

Which way was it landing? 33 or 15. Looks to be awfully close to the 33 threshold to end up where it has. If it landed on 15 then it has done a 180 at some stage.

It has the appearances of the nose wheel collapse being the result of an event not the cause of the event.

Have been told by pilots working there it wasn’t a nose wheel collapse...pilot left the island after the accident and hasn’t returned.

Duct tape and super glue and it will be like new!

Rumoured brakes maybe?

pilot left the island after the accident and hasn’t returned
I wouldn't attach any importance to that. Most sane, rational people could probably think of a million or so other places they would sooner be than Mabuiag Island.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the burnt out wreckage sitting outside the airport and parking area boundary?

How the hell did it end up where it is?

Don't think so. You'd need balls that would make a Brahman bull feel inferior to do it that way.
