Cairns Post reports that the aircraft, a Cherokee 6, was landing when it suffered a nose wheel collapse.
The aircraft left the runway, hit a small building then travelled through a gate before stopping 10 metres from the runway. THe aircraft caught fire and was burnt out. The pilot, the sole POB, was uninjured .
The aircraft was landing at Mabulag Island.
Close - but it was Mabuiag.
