As a source in the region's emergency services told Interfax, "on Sunday afternoon a light-engine aircraft carrying four people crashed into Baikal."

That wasn't a water landing. It was normal turning and descending profile, just the water was higher than expected. Now if the ground had been lower . . .

Was the motor running (I couldn't tell on my low-resolution screen)? Certainly I couldn't hear it - but heard the splash ok!
Perhaps they had an engine failure, were attempting to reach land, decided they couldn't quite make it (clearly it was high/not flat ground where the video was taken from) and chose the lesser of two evils at the last moment... let's not be too hard on the pilot at this stage, without further info.

Not sure what JC has to do with it.
With a fixed gear any water impact means a turn over, unless it really is a flop and stop.
I would have though an uphill landing on shore would have been a better option than the freezing drink,...the lake, not the vodka.
Though you'd have to get the round-out exactly right

Mention is made of the aircraft being used in a tourist op. Might explain the drunk pax.
"Was the motor running..." Looking at the video the propeller stops rotating just before the aircraft comes out of the turn.
Mention was made in the LL comments of glassy water. Looking at the video there are some small waves behind the aircraft touch down point though straight ahead of it the water appears to be glassy. The water reflection of the rocky island straight ahead of the aircraft shows the glassy surface to good effect. I'd ruminate that if the pilot were looking straight ahead for the 'landing' towards the rocky island, and not using the boat or land either side as a reference, He may very well of not seen the water surface due to the islands reflection taking away any perspective of where the surface is.
