Lame apprentice wages
Is someone able to provide me with some info on the award wage for aircraft mechanic apprentices in Australia. In particular adult apprentices. I'm struggling to fine any info online.

Take my advice. I too was a mature age apprentice, quit now and get yourself a real job instead of becoming a slave to the LAME monopoly. I now work in IT, paid heaps more , more respect and better conditions. Its a dead end don't do it.

The old award did not have adult rates.
When I did the numbers on new award it was about $700 a week for a 1st year, this was far too much and we never took on anther apprentice under the new award (Trade School,Holidays, Public Holidays and sick leave = away from work about half the year).
With Supa that works out to costing $20 per hour even when not at work, then a LAME cost to train and the costly mistakes like connecting up battery wrong (both terminals are red - its the colour of the crimps!)

Give it away before you even start. To be honest its not worth doing anymore. Its now a joke. As a 30plus year as a lame i recommend you go and sweep streets. More money no stress no casa no poeple saying you rip me off it should have only taken x amount of time. No casa.
And as we go to air i was told lwst night that a major 147 org in south aust has had it removed and any lic given for the last 3 years will be removed and all the work carried out by the personal that signed any work of as a lic eng will have recertification.
Plus pilots are quite able to do thier own maintenance just ask them

Current wage for 2nd year apprentice adult is $16.80 an hour, works out to $1196 per fortnight net. Do it because you want to not as a career, I'm finishing my college and competency based training this year aged 60 (ahem) something and would be looking at $25 hour when completed as Cert 4 in aeroskills AME (kids at maccas get close to that) but it's something I wanted to do. Have fun or go get a job in Council or somewhere and make good bucks.

No avionics master will be around $10K, over double that with it turned on.(200 series Cessna ex 208)
Oh $110 is very cheap & no such thing as LAME apprentice.
And if you are not the signing, direct supervising LAME - how do you determine "good"?

Wow. This thread has it all.....
If you're chasing a high paying job with a stable employment platform then becoming a L.A.M.E would be well down the list.
However, if you're interested in working on/maintaining aircraft as a career, then I say go for it! It can be interesting an very rewarding and it tends to be what you make of it. There are many varied pathways depending on your specific interests and if you're really keen, you can even jump from one pathway to the next.
In my opinion, it's no different to becoming a commercial pilot. You have to put in to get something out, yes there are sacrifices along with good days and bad. Ultimately it comes down to how badly you want it and are you in a position to move where the industry can serve you best?

Yep offical. Lads got letters from the big guys suspending lic . Now they looking at recertification of the aircraft that have been done. I believe it gose back approximately 3 years. Funny i said at a casa form that this would happen. I was told it wouldnt and it has. We been lead by incompetent fools.

Last heard it was 88 lames with licences suspended. Some cases it's full licences others it was restrictions lifted by Tafe SA.
Not sure how they are avoiding aircraft being grounded. I'm sure CASA is jumping legal hoops to avoid any groundings.
Should lead to a class action by LAMEs at least .... If not operators. Imagine if this happens to AA! People keep telling me they are too big to fail !

Mate the 3rd and forth year appy almost gets $20 as a base rate + allowances + 12 extra weeks a year away + ASIC +++.
Now lets talk hangar rent on a airport - mates rates $4,000 up to $30,000 a month for nothing flash. I would like your input on this for your area.
$200 nope we mostly charged the same, but had a provision for about $20 per hour more - almost never used.
To run an avionics shop is cheaper to set up than a Eng/AF place, it is a myth otherwise and they do have bigger appy stuff up issues to deal with. But that is insurance issues.
Generally LAMES don't employ apprentices but companies do they may have a aviation type owner or may simply be a PTY company with an Irish CEO and not a LAME or a PILOT.
My say is mostly the first 18 months to 2 years an appy is not much help in actually "doing the job" but after that they should be able to do tasks. Over 3 years they can be useful.

Remember a B1 and B2 Lame is $916.30 the "Adult"1st year gets just $289.66 less and the 4th year $164.25 less than a old 5 catLAME (Excluding the small weekly licence addition/s)

Is tax payable on that amount?
Does anyone know or worked out what the award payment allowances are for a B1 and B2 licence holder are for say a King air?
I expect it is about $60-$80 or so a week.

Two years back I was on 61.50$ an hour flat rate as a B2 with accomadation and flights working on kingairs. Just between jobs. King Air is considered a type rating now and pt6 always has always been a type rating.
Most companies pay above award otherwise you can't attract people.
