RAAF C-27J bent

It's amazing how the media turns a couple of blown tyres into a "crash"..

Pretty good lean for just a couple of blown tyres, even if they are the only ones on that side...

May be a bit more than a couple of blown tyres?

"...the RAAF C-27J Spartan was involved in a serious incident that damaged the aircraft and the airport’s main runway..."
Looks like it could be a tad legless on the Port side?

Also the bit where they talk about landing short of the runway and bursting the tyres is probably newsworthy.

“The flight was a pilot-qualification flight for RAAF pilots converting to the new C-27J Spartan battlefield airlifter, flown alongside industry instructors,” a RAAF spokesman said.
So, did he/she pass??

Short field landings...tick
Unusual attitudes (on ground)....tick
Emergency evacuation....tick

Seriously though, I can only imagine that the poor trainee was doing stuff that we wouldn't attempt to do in our civilian aeroplanes - the definition of a battlefield airlifter I assume as a non raaf type would be an aeroplane that does a lot of tactical stuff which in a big(ish) non fighter type aeroplane might present a challenge, and they do so without a huge level of recency or experience (in comparison to some other pilots who do 7,8,900 hrs a year, year in year out), so he/she has my sympathies, I hope the only thing hurt is their pride and they suffer no untoward consequences as a result of the mishap. There but for the grace of God (or Allah, allan, Buddha, Tom cruise or whoever the big knob scientologist is these days, Brian, Sir Alec Guinness or whoever you personally prefer) go all of us!

Why do they in the RAAF nowadays refer to themselves as "air force" instead of The air force?
Not sure, but it sounds bloody stupid, a bit like councils saying 'Council will make a decision in due course'.

They've been calling themselves that for years. Just as The Army calls themselves Army, and The Navy calls themselves Navy.
