For those that are unaware. All changes in the latest ERSA and VTC. Might pay to tune into 118.8 if you have a second COM.

Also some other changes for the Qld in there too.

Does anyone know why they would change the frequency as such?

From memory, the change was due to the high flyers operating into Gladstone (also on 118.8), hearing the YCDR and YCAB traffic.

BPA is quite correct, of course if the precious darlings didn't transmit that they're inbound to Gladstone from 50 miles away and at great heights then they wouldn't hear, or have interference from, traffic at Caboolture and Caloundra.

Another missed opportunity here to split the frequencies so that YCAB and YCDR aren't on a common frequency; it gets quite busy at times, and given identical runway directions it can be rather confusing too...

Dora, Gladdy>Cab 214nm. There'll be plenty of overlap and cross-pollination even at 10,000ft or lower, the last thing the "high flyers" need at Transition. Over here, we sometimes jump when the CTAF lights up with a call from an aircraft that is 370nm away on the same CTAF.

50nm does seem a bit far out...

I think there was some talk of changing 12/30 at either YCDR or YCAB to 11/29 to avoid just this confusion...?!

Agreed though, getting a separate CTAF would be nice. Then there'd be a lot more space on the frequency to discuss when the pub closes and how fast my shopping trolley goes with a 12 knot tailwind.

There's just too much unnecessary chatter (who would have thought?!) on that CTAF. It can otherwise be very valuable having the same frequency for converging YCDR/YCAB traffic entering those coastal VFR lanes over Bribie Island.

As there is on many other CTAFs. The fly-by-mouth promoted by @#$%&*()+ years ago will take a long time to filter out of the system...
