Tiger Moth World
Seems like these guys are advertising on AFAP again, seems to be the case every few weeks, any know the reason behind it? Just not a nice place to work?
Min 1-2 year commitment is a bit much, if I were starting out again I would get to the 500hr mark then move on to bigger and better things

Considering they advertise every 6 months I'd say the 1-2 year commitment isn't mandatory....
My favorite is the "well above average flying skills.", have you ever met a pilot who described themselves as having below average flying skills?

Don't forget deliberately dragging the tail of the plane you brought down through the grass in favour of using the breaks. "Don't worry, it's only grass"
Or bragging about how many times his pilots have done dead stick landings after running of fuel during a drop run.
Also don't bother applying if you are gay or female.

I heard the CP had quit after being given 32 non compliance notices from CASA, as far as I knew the AOC had then been revoked. There was something about a PA32 hitting a fence on landing in Apollo Bay and it not being reported. Anyone know who is stupid enough to CP for them?

Has always been a very questionable operation, my son was the only pilot left in the early 1990's when the two owners had their licences suspended for flour bombing and low flying a competitor at Grovedale. My son had to live on site 6 days a week, Fly every day, be the security officer and do the maintenance????? For all this he was eventually sacked and was put off flying forever.
So how many generations of pilots went through this outfit and done nothing but bitch about it?
I don't know anything about this operation except that I met a pilot on several occasions who worked for them for over 2 years. He was dedicated and hard working and made a go of it then moved onto bigger and better things.

#10 We get innuendo about cylinders but the fact is 0520 cylinders do occasionally crack. The cracking may or may not be due to pilot handling. The cracking can occur hundreds of hours after mistreatment and not ever as a direct consequence. (I am sure Jabba will back me up on this). A ripple in the wing??? Sure, most 206's have this in a minor way, struth, most are over 30 years old. Way too little info - pure gossip.
#11 we have another first time poster describing a chief pilot getting NONC's. Pure garbage. If the chief pilot is not responsible to CASA then who is? A pocket full of NONC's can be part of the game. Fixing them is another part of the game. Here we have a chief pilot who couldn't play.
#13 We have a dreamer living in the past. His son worked there around 20 years ago ... He thinks nothing ever changes. Perhaps it doesn't but heck, perhaps neither does he.

#17 We are told CASA know the situation and are doing nothing. Perhaps this is because the company is actually complying with legislation and have a good chief pilot? I don't know myself, wouldn't have a clue even, but it is possible.

I reiterate, I know nothing about this operation except that I met (on around 6 occasions), a hard working pilot at Apollo Bay Airstrip who lasted well over two years with this outfit, gained a heap of experience then went on to bigger and better things. I also met his boss, crabby about a bogged aircraft, pissed off about having to drive some distance to extract it, but honest enough to keep said pilot employed and learning.
The point is, jobs for rookies are few and far between. My experience with beginners is that they are mostly a hopeless bunch and I have employed my fair share of em. Part of me wants to go and shake this guys hand, at least he knows what he wants and is honest enough to say so.

I applied for a job with this outfit about 6 years ago. He called me back and asked how old I was as I hadn't written my DOB on my CV. I told him and he said to me on the phone I was too old. I informed him that he can't say that to which he replied he didn't care.
Based on that I would say he is not a stand up guy.

Add this post to your growing list Bob...we were all useless once mate, even you. A good boss can make a massive difference.. As can a bad one.
I've heard nothing positive about that business. Some things direct,others folklore. Experience shows me if there's enough noise it usually has substance..
I would advise any fresh CPL to find another sh1thole to get your start. And if you simply must go there, remember :
-it's your ar$e that's strapped in the seat
-it's your ar$e CASA will go after should you break the law ( even if old mate told you " that's how we do it round here".)
- There are very small margins in aviation. He won't be the last boss to rip you off but he may well be better at it than most.
- you don't have to be grateful for the job. Just work hard, do your job and go home.

Call me a dreamer Bob but after 40 years as a pilot I do know the difference between a good operator and one that isn't. These guys not only damaged the careers of many young hopefuls but ran a very loose operation.
