Forced Landing Narrabri Thurs 12/6/14

Emergency services have been called out to the Newell Highway south of Narrabri where a light plane was forced to make an emergency landing late this afternoon.
The pilot suffered head injuries, while the passenger has leg injuries.
It’s believed the aircraft’s engine failed.

story in the telegraph, crew narrowlyescaped instant death... yadda yadda, reports of some injuries, and aircraft, according to the story is a Piper Malibu from dubbo to sunshine coast.

Wll done all are OK.
So another Lycoming Malibu problem......
I hope that engine gets sent to Brisbane Aero for investigation. PLEASE.

It was'nt on the Newell ,it went in the trees some distance to the west from reports from the Westpac chopper, apparantly the local copper punched his way throught the scub in his 4x4 to get to it and the pilot was busted up a bit so my guess is it will be a total

I believe the following location is the approximate crash site. They crashed into heavy vegetation on the Northern end of the Pilliga forest country, approximately 10 kms NW of the Newell Hwy. It took the police over an hour to get through the scrub to the crash site.

Are there any pictures? I saw TSV and pilot earlier in the day at a port. Flying back home was asked to help in the search. It was encouraging to hear such a quick SAR response. Hope he's ok.

That's a good effort, alright, to get down largely intact with the fuselage. That's some pretty solid timber in that forest. I've spent a little time around the Pillaga Scrub, those trees are mostly Cypress Pine and Ironbark.
So another Lycoming Malibu problem......
Continental with a capital " C " for trouble . It will be interesting to see what ways the AtSB find to blame this on poor airspeed management by the pilot.
The single visible prop blade looks straight suggesting it was stopped at the point of impact.
The whole passenger cabin is impressively intact and the clamshell door opened. I can image it wouldn't take a lot of cabin deformation to make it jam shut. I think this would give confidence on its crash worthiness to all Malibu / Mirage / Matrix divers.
Glad it had a happy ending.
