Devon at Bankstown

The Australian Aviation Museum Bankstown, Starky Drive Bankstown Airport, has Devon VH-DVE in its collection, essentially complete. restoration is ongoing, but it is a long term project for the museum with limited financial and volunteer resources. The aircraft was built in 1953. Currently needs a cockpit canopy and a lower front undercarriage unit that holds the nose wheel. Any assistance greatly appreciated. Email [email protected]

Hi Mike,

thanks for the Info, as i posted earlier I was there when Ted Rudge re assembled it in OZ and I have flown in DVE I would love to put progress of the restoration up on the site and FB page, that way we might be able to get the parts you require. I know canopies are a bit hard to come by these days but i would suggest contacting Devonair in england as they have an extensive range of Dove & Devon spares. there were a couple of members on the Key Forum talking about getting new ones made so you could contact one of them. link below

Air force museum in Christchurch might be worth a try for parts.
Also noticed a Dove for sale on EBay in the U.S with spares.
Current bid $15000.

I know an outfit in QLD that has a mould for producing new Dove cockpit canopies. I also believe the Bankstown museum has a new one already.

Dove at or near Bathurst

Hi Guys,

We had an earlier post about a dove at bathurst, we put that down to the Drover that is there but i have had some recent info that there is a dove somewhere around bathurst, its painted black and has either shark or dragon teeth painted on it, if you can confirm this and or have photo's it would be great.
Cheers, Dan

There is an aeroplane on a property about 20 miles NW of Bathurst which I have been told is a Dove, I have only seen it from about 5000', about the right size, tapered wings.
The property has dozens of vehicles spread through the trees, the owner is a "collector!"

some more have gone?

I used to regularly drive through a little place called Teddywaddy in Vic' that had what looked like a few old doves mostly intact and a number of other aircraft in the yards of a private property. They have all since disappeared but some are still visible on Google Maps.
Does anyone know where they may have gone? not into scrap I hope.
Sorry I've never stopped and snapped any photo's so I'm unable to help with rego's.

I believe they would be Dick Winterburns, he has moved to Heathcote
deelictaircraftmuseum
His collection is open to the public on saturdays, details are on his website. I also have photos of his doves on the Dove preservation group website

Cheers, Dan
