A "new" airport for Victoria?

Somebody is doing something right.

Lethbridge airport in Victoria is to get $1Mill from the state government to upgrade one runway to a sealed 1,200m by 18m pavement, a new taxiway complex, Avgas, Mogas and Jet A1 fuelling and a water hydrant capability for the CFA. At the same time Cohuna airport gets $269,000 for various upgrades to allow ambulance aircraft access.

The state minister made an interesting comment at the launch today. Lethbridge is one of the very few new airports in Australia in recent years. Why new? Well, it’s had aviation for about 20 years but last year is succeeded in getting the zoning changed from “Farming- with aviation activities” to “airport” with the full co-operation of the local council. Besides the mining sites (FIFO) has any other new airport been set up recently? And yes, I know Wilkins in Antarctica is technically a new Australian airport. And don’t mention Badgery’s Creek

Do you reckon $1m is enough for all of those improvements? Just wondering as 100 metres of bitumen for final sealing is around $30k wholesale from memory.

Aside from that, great stuff, it's a good little airport.

Congratulations Minister & to the local council well done Gary, you did yourself proud today

Pilots, do yourself a favour and have a look at this aerodrome, it's a fantastic place to fly with a thriving club. One of the better flying schools is based there (skythrills). Anybody is welcome to fly in for the Saturday barby. The future plans for this aerodrome are exciting to say the least. I know a great builder that is gearing up for hangars, he is a pilot also and knows what you want

A future airforce gun recently flew there
