The organisation was excellent but so it was in the Nazi concentration camps.

And there it is! I guess none of us could possibly say anything else that could better reflect Sunfish's general attitude towards things...

Maybe Sunfish is due for his third self-inflicted PPRuNe holiday.

I enjoyed the solar cars and was impressed at the horse-power that they got out of them for the size of the solar panel. It was great to see the school kids getting into it and enjoying it so much, plus the robot soccer game in the trade hall. We should be looking to these kids to design the next breed of electric / solar aircraft. I also enjoyed the Monster Truck and the 4WD track; most entertaining to watch and participate in during the flying breaks.

"We should be looking to these kids to design the next breed of electric / solar aircraft."

I think you'd find that some of those who participated have probably done
so already and will continue in the future.

I remember the first one, it was not long after having been up there.
The speed they get up to now and how short a time it takes is amazing.

If anything, the biggest thing i learnt from this show, was to ditch the people you went with.

Normally i spend 2-3 hours in the trade halls, but the crew i was with, we were done there in 30 mins. won't do that again!

Next show i will do what i want, either follow or go find your own fun.... Being dragged away from listening to a quality explanation of the RR 550 peeved me off no end.

I went on the Sunday and my biggest gripe would be the majority of exhibitors in the halls shutting up shop or gone well before 2pm. Any idea why this would be the case?

I guess my mistake was not going straight to the halls in the morning, but going with people who've never been to an airshow before, they naturally wanted to see and touch the a/c, oh and that XXXX tent.

I cant blame them, on the Sunday, after 2pm the vast majority of people are out watching the air display and after being there all week, packing up would have been an appealing chore.

I think you'll find many were gone WELL before 2pm. Try 4pm on the Friday...

Would you buy a two day ticket for $100.00, say?
Certainly would make going a second day more appealing! Perhaps if you can show a ticket from an earlier day, you get entry for on $40 on subsequent days?

nitpicker330 Didn't know the Q400 was there for Bombardier! As I said, no staff, no signs, nothing! Just had to guess at what it was doing there.

Friday morning is a mixed trade and public day, the afternoon is all public and that is when some exhibitors pack up and go, as previously explained, it is all to do with hotel costs, transport including hire vehicles and keeping staff working over the weekend etc. If you come on a public day definitely do the halls first.

I put the question of a two day ticket to those that know and was told that the take-up, when it was tried before, was insufficient to cover the additional printing costs, have to admit, I hadn't thought of producing the previous days ticket for a discount!

The suggestion was, as you may expect from the commercial department, why not buy a Gold Pass and have admission on all three days?

Why not simply call the proceedings "Avalon Air Display"? As an air display it was a great success. As a show where one can buy and sell, not so much.

Specifically, I am in the market for an engine ($25,000+), constant speed propeller ($7000) and at least $10,000 worth of avionics. What did I find? SFA.

You found your engine and you found Garmin and I'm sure Dynon was probably floating around there somewhere however you probably couldn't have made a purchase anyway. It's not a retail shop at Avalon, it's a trade display / hall. Quite different. They just point you to the nearest vendor to you that stocks their wares and you go there and make your purchase. Buying from Avalon generally speaking would be like buying direct from the manufacturer and they aren't all set up for that.

Seems that at OshKosh as well as the vendors, there are lots of small pop-up shops like Sporties and Aircraft Spruce where you can buy your kit and walk home with it. That's what we are missing here to keep Sunny happy and I can understand the gap and why it's frustrating. Probably the reason why Jack Ranga was so happy when he got to OshKosh and gave his card a workout. I remember buying heaps of kit at Aircraft Spruce when I was at OshKosh as there was no freight costs.

IIRC Horsham aviation (Dynon dealers) was there but outside the trade hall

Deaf, I rang the nice people at Horsham to see if they were going to have a stand - they didn't.

Did you also ask them about the pre-paid parking idea? They have to fix the time it takes get in from the Geelong side of the airport to the parking spot.

The "Rock Show" Super Hornet display was great. Although a bit confusing who the good guy and bad guy was. Maybe next time they should have a Bae Hawk as the baddie.
They should do a big Role demo like they do in the UK. Have the Wedgetail flying orbits. Supers doing CAP overhead. Chinooks, black hawks bringing in troops. Hercs taking them away. Hawks being the bad guys and the Supers chase them off.
