Caution...
I have an Omega Speedmaster Professional which I bought from Fiji in 1968.
It is not waterproof.
I was splashing around in the local pool, and it got condensation under the crystal.
So I sent it back to Louis Frere & Son, Berne , and they 'resealed' it and sent it back.
Washing the car one hot day, splashed some water over myself to cool down...guess what?.
Back to Switzerland it went, this time with a 'cranky' covering letter!
Back it came, with new warranty, and when it happened AGAIN, I threw it into the drawer, in its box, and there it sits....
My Big W digital does it all....loses 3 seconds over 3 months, and hasn't leaked yet.
Cheers , and bah humbug to those expensive overpriced timepieces....

Have had it for over 13yrs.
Like having two zones. Current time (analogue) UTC (digital). Has 30 times zones available.

Buy a decent Rolex, a Sea Dweller or similar, it will cost a bit but you will never need to buy another watch, and your oldest son probably won't either if you leave it to him. If you get really stuck you can probably sell it for not a lot less than you paid for it. Some, I think the GMT master and Daytona are worth quite a bit more now than they were new. Most have a so called lifetime warranty, but it actually runs out after 50 years. Just a thought.

Features I want in an aviation watch (in order of importance):
- I have never seen a watch with all of that, by the way - so I just wear a swatch.
- Analogue local time (i.e. an hour and minute hand)
- large digital date.
- Sweep second hand.
- Text day of the week (surprising how hard it is to keep track on a random airline roster!)
- Second time zone (UTC) - not so important now that I am in the UK, but would be nice. Preferably as a large digital window. (No digital seconds, that would be too busy - using the sweep second hand.)
- Good strong night light/night viewing system.
- Quick, easy to set, countdown timer with loud alarm / alerting device, for both approaches (in the few minutes range) and for next waypoint/radio call (in the many tens of minutes range).
- Reasonably loud wake-up alarm - set off the local (analogue) display.
- Lunar phase, for interest and an idea of how bright the night will be.
