New Crew

In the past year has seen some turbulent times and down times throughout the survey field. Alot of changes (perhaps needed to be).
Fugro - advert for CP. And many others.
Aeroquest now Geotech or UTS ? with alot of people on the sideline.
GPX - perhaps non existant.?
Thomsons - ?
New crews out of Bankstown on Pac750,s? Who knows.

Would like anyones oppinion wiether survey is worth the worry.?
M

Fugro - Sold, new owners seem to be downsizing airborne side
Aeroquest gone bust effectively, Australia section sold to Geotech and reverted to original name of UTS. Major restructuring with a lot of hiring and firing of new staff, they have a 208 working in Malaysia, and a fletcher or 2 in Australia going, not sure what their 206s or chopper teams are doing.
GPX - Got a couple of 210s plugging away in Australia and some choppers and planes overseas plus the ground crews as well.
Thomsons - their ops manager keeps things nicely organised. Got 2-3 planes working in Australia, a chopper in NZ and another 1 or 2 in SE Asia.

Thats just aeromag and gravity stuff tho, there are a few other companies around doing LIDAR and photo stuff.

As with all survey, its a root-around. You make lots of money when you are at work, but there is no warning when there is going to be a quiet spell, and then you make absolutely nothing. If you want to do a lot of hours in a short space of time it can work well, but to keep it as a long-term career path, you need to be on a salary or retainer type pay arrangement, and you may as well start your divorce proceedings because you wont be married for too long.
