Jeppesen TC/FD & iPad mini

Has anyone tried a mini yet? How does it compare with the iPad?

Not available until November 2nd and even then only in the less desirable WiFi-only version.

If you want the cellular version, you have to wait until "late november".

As your learned self would be aware, the screen res is the same as the ipad2 so it would be fine from that perspective.

Mounted on the side window,I'd say it'd be a bit too small?

Check the podcast with a guy from Foreflight on Avweb. He talks about the scaling for the iPad mini.

Jeppview is available in Android version as well. It could be a cheaper alternative than paying the Apple Tax.

And lots of reviews on "Google Play" of just how bad it is and you need to get just the right Android device to make it work reliably. (hint: those that are not actually significantly cheaper than iPads)

And then you still only have Jepp; if you want to go bug smashing on the weekend, you are out of luck with the other EFBs that are only on iOS...

And for that reason I can't see androids being regulator certified / approved / accepted in the near future.

To save you all the pain of listening thru 4 minutes of waffle for 15 seconds of thread-relevant info, the ipad mini scales the display so that nothing needs to be done to the apps. You'll just need to increase the strength of your coke-bottles, Claret.

Correct, iPad mini is, technology wise, an iPad 2. Same CPU/RAM, etc. While the display is smaller, it is still 1024x768 pixels, meaning us developers need do nothing; stuff just displays a little smaller, but there are no scaling artefacts or other distortions.

I think the question being asked here (I'm also keen to know myself) is whether or not the iPad Mini physical screen size is large enough to display all the relevant information that can easily be seen on the current iPad.
