Oh my, read the reviews - all about the app not running on this device and that device (and nothing about the actual app functionality)

If there is any reason you do not see AvPlan and others on Android, there they are.

AVWEB have a podcast on their site of an interview with ForeFlight who say bluntly that Android is well off the agenda. Windows will be ahead of Android. The guy basically says the platform agenda is set by airlines IT departments who , after a brief hesitation, all all adopting ipads.

Ah, but VHS was both cheaper than Betamax and did what the Sony system could not in its early versions: record an entire length feature film or footy show. It was simply not fit for purpose.

Can't say that about the iPad; it fits the purpose of EFB very, very well.

What do you recommend to go with, for a VFR bug-smasher 'dinosaur' wif a I-pad (Wi-Fi only) and a Telstra Elite Mobile Wi-Fi' and about to purchase (oi think) a Bad Elf Pro Gps unit.....

Bad Elf Pro is probably overkill; unless you have 5 iPads you want to hook up and record your track using the Bad Elf...

Garmin GLO would be quite a good choice.

I can't say I am not a little biased, but OzRunways is the go, of course!

Even if this was correct, and by all accounts it is now down near 50%, you are telling me that having 30% of millions of tablet users is not worthwhile ? Not everybody wants to be dominated by Itunes.

If you are making a random app, like my friends who make weather and podcasting apps, it certainly is; they are doing very well with it and I would recommend anyone in that business embrace Android!

However, the limited market I speak of is not the Android market, it is the aviation market.

For our particular business, it doesn't make much sense. Most of our customers buy a tablet specifically for our product and have no bias against/towards any system.

Taken that into account, the huge investment required to duplicate the entire app does not make business sense. I could easily spend half a million dollars hiring people to write our Android version and another couple hundred grand each year to support it, but if I only see my revenue go up by 10-20%, that's a bad investment...

If you are a pilot and want quality aviation apps, get an iPad. Instead of companies having to spread their limited resources on both systems, you can enjoy more updates and better software on the one platform.

Baswell, given your product will never be certified for IFR use and is only useable in the Australian market (you too, Bevan?) your pushing of ipads is understandable.

Jepp Mobile Terminal Charts (no airway manual or charts yet) works OK on Android. It certainly needs a bit of work but is useable and will only get better as more people see the light. Most of the foibles are the result of poor programming (but it still has Favourites ) by Jepp.

Bas, what gets me is Jeppesen went to the trouble of having an app for the old android (ice cream sandwich) but seem disinterested in updating that to the current system (jelly bean), which I find strange especially since apple are losing their stranglehold on the tab market

Bloggs, would love a PM from you if you know how to even get Jeppesen TC onto an android device running jelly bean as Google play doesn't even list it

So far I have not heard of any airline that has chosen Android, so it doesn't surprise me that Jeppesen lost interest! They'll sell to us little guys if you jump through enough hoops, but their heart isn't really in it...
