Aussie CPL Flight Test

Hi, just trying to find out what is involved in the aussie cpl flight test. I heard that stalls and spins are not included..! Thought this was odd, is it true?

I have a canadian license and needing to convert, (im an aussie citizen).

I guess ill specify that i don't need a full rundown, i can find that for myself, tho trawling through the web trying to find the info is tiresome at best.

What i have heard is that it has to be done in an aircraft with a constant speed prop and cruise > 120 knots.. So this is a leap of sorts from my last cpl flight test.

Like i said i had heard stalls and spins were not involved and was just gob-smacked...

I can't see any specific mention of 'stalls' on the flight test form, I can however recall them being included in my cpl flight test a few years ago.

This is a good list to start.

Your CPL flight test will cover all items, stalls, prec search, forced landing, basic IF, and you will ned to know how to operate in Oz CTA. Minimum aircraft type will be an Arrow.

Thanks guys, i will have to get used to the arrow, with it's constant speed, low wings and such. How is it's spin characteristics?

Do it in a C172 RG if you have been flying Cessna's.
CSU, RG and cruise 120kts.
Helps having a high wing for prec searches too.

An Arrow isn't necessarily the minimum type. There isn't a requirement for retractable undercarriage (a retrograde step, IMO). Any type that has a variable speed prop and, unless it's changed, can cruise at 120kts or more on book figures meets the criteria. A Tobago, for example, is acceptable. Only just because the book says you need 75% to get a few kts over 120kt, but that's all that counts.

You could also do the test in a twin. Can't remember if variable pitch & speed requirements apply. Not that it matters - not many multis that don't have variable pitch or cruise <120kts.

You don't have to do spins. And nobody (?) does them because it doesn't add much to your licence. Some ratings (instructor, aero of course) do require them, but they are usually done separately and just give you a stamp in your logbook.

Element A5.1 refers to entry and recovery from stalls.

You have to be assessed and signed off as competent in all the elements to be recommended for CPL flight test.
