training time limit

Is there a time limit to complete a Cert 4(CPL) or diploma in aviation?

There is no time limit imposed expressly under either of the approved training packages. However, for practical purposes your RTO may impose its own limits.

I'm pretty sure the 'unwritten' limit... is a year. But nobody's complained since I busted that

I would suggest you get no to your RTo and say these magic words. "I intend to take the matter up with VETAB, who oversee the Certificate IV"

VETAB is like the police of VET training. You can access their website on www.vetab.nsw.gov.au

Further the Training package you should have done is AVI08, which is the new one.

You can look at the total training package on the website www.tlis.com.au . I had a look and there is nothing in this package that state a time frame to complete the course.

The only time frame is out of date. Most VET programme are designed that they expire after 3 years unless you continue to do study or what is called professional improvement. If teh case of the CCommercial Pilot this would be renewal of Instrument ratings of annual check rides or endorsements. Unlike a degree which is forever (think about the doctor who trained 20 years ago and has never been checked since!!!!!!!!!!)

Anway the bottom line is your RTO is out of line, and I suspect he is loking for more money.

Cheers

You can ask your current RTO manager for a Statement of Attainment. The RTO is required under the AQTF standards to give you this statement upon your request. Once you have the statement go to another RTO and request recognition of prior learning (RPL). All RTO's are required to have a policy on RPL.

followed the advice and asked the receptionist they believed that as i didnt finish the course in 42 weeks i was unable to receive the certificate IV in aviation. I also received a letter from the school at week 40 saying that if i didnt finish all the written exams and be up to pre-licence stage in the next 2 weeks then i would not receive the diploma or certificate IV, at that point i was nowhere near completion.
anyway the receptionist also said they were unsure so gave me an email of another person that might know at the parent companys office(probably just gave too much away as to which school this might be). I contacted them and they said that i am eligible.
