Average hours per month you're flying
Just wondering what's the average hours people are doing per month these days in both GA charter/scenic compared with instructing. Thanks.

we arent so much charter, more airwork, but on a good month 120, but a quiet month 90-100. The important thing is to look at the $$$ not the hours. I notice a lot of people tell me "the pay isnt very good but we do lots of hours." Which to me sounds worse than low pay and low hours. Compare it to driving a concrete truck for example. If you were getting less money to do lots of truck driving at one company, and an opposition company offered you twice the money for half the hours, you'd go there wouldnt you?
I know what you will all say....you go to the most houred job so you can get out of there sooner and move up to a higher paying job with bigger planes. From what any airline pilot on the 'bigger planes' have told me, they had much more enjoyment flying their smaller planes, so to me it sounds like the less hours, the more pay, in the smaller planes is the way to go. Just a thought....

I'm getting about 35-40hrs a month. Pretty cruisey job with award pay. Suits me just fine. I would rather fly a bit more than fly 1 hr sit for 5 hrs then fly 1hr back, but that's mining charter for you and I'm not complaining.

Been zero for yrs, looking for a job.
Being forcibly grounded when you desperately want to fly and work and cant even get an interview with the companies when they are hiring is a very slow frustrating death.

We do similar hrs to you probably a few less and the beauty of my job is that we do the flight and then knock off so say I do a five hr flight duty is say 6 hrs. No waiting around under the wing at a remote strip all day while pax do their business.
Also get roughly double the salary compared to charter, for less time at work.
I believe we need to look at money for duty hrs, as well as flying hrs.
The more time an individual is at work the more they should be paid. Simple as that.

Quality not quantity
I reckon our operation flys around 12 hrs a week tops per pilot. The pay is pretty good and it's all large twins. Buzzing around doing lots of hours is great. But you will want to get credible hrs and experience in a good operation regardless of whether u plan on doing corporate, rfds or airlines.

About 70 a month, all IFR charter, but frequently on max duty limits. Suppose that's the nature of top end charter, quite a bit of duty taken up sitting around waiting to go home.
As little as possible for as much money as I can
Stuff working max hours/max duty. Alright for a couple of years to get over the 1500 hour hump, but after that - it's great to have a life.
Remember, flying is just a job, and you do it to pay the bills while generating a lifestyle.

Same as the other guys up north i reckon.... av about 60-70 hrs per month but always working right up to 90 hrs duty per fortnight. We have many first light flights along with end of day flights so each day is pushing the 11hr mark.
Hanging around all day at places like the airports at BTI, SNB, GBI and NGU sucks too! Bring a good book, a fly swat and some suncream!
