CYCLONE "YASI".....Nth QLD
Got the Honda generator fired up - running fridge/freeze, TV, video, puter - and occassionally dishwasher and washing machine.
Kinda like being back on a cattle station - with the generator running all night in the background!

You buggers and your bloody generators. It's bad enough having no power but having one of those smelly, noisy and surging b@stards parked outside your bedroom when it's 28 and 100% humidity in the middle of the night! If the power hadn't just come back on I think that generator may have mysteriously sustained some serious cricket bat damage.

Sounds like the Innamincka Pub accommodation, the joint's got a genny big enough to power the MCG. I scored the room next to the bloody thing, went timidly into the bar and asked them when they shut it down. 'About once a month' was the reply . Wasted sleepless night...

Good point. Didn't some poor young bloke asphixiate during the cyclone because they had the genny inside? Hopefully there'll be a bit of a public awareness campaign about that, along with keeping a week's supply of water and tinned food in the house at all times.
I'd be glad if the Dr was my neighbor in that case. Probably try and run an extension cord from him too!The one next door was not an environmentally friendly one. Couldn't even run at a constant RPM.
The emergency SMS system thing was used to remind us not to use gennies indoors and there have been several warning messages broadcast on local ABC as well.
