Avgas price in Australia and New Zealand

Just wondering what the current avgas price is in Australia and New Zealand?

The price here in the UK is now heading North of Aus$3.20 / litre.

Thanks,

We are being ripped off at $1.80/ L and it will vary by location. Buy a drum in remote places and it will be $3+

Well don't go to Mildura if you're looking for cheap Avgas. The price there at the moment is $2.03/lt. That's about .30 cents/lt dearer than what you can get it for in YSBK or YMEN the last time I checked. That equates to around a $100.00 more if I need to fill the 210. Ripoff indeed.

QDM the last price I saw quoted in UK recently was GBP1.60/lt.

In my view if you're earning Pounds that is not a lot different to paying AU$1.60/lt in Australia when you earn AU$.

The latest exchange rate GBP/AUD is 1.60. So when I put some avgas in my mates Cherokee at White Waltham its costing ME about AU$2.56/lt. That is the only time exchange rates come into the question. Actually more like Br$3.20/lt because I earn Brunei/Sin $s not Oz$.

It would be as silly as you saying that you Ozzies have it so good/flying is so cheap in Australia because you only pay GBP1.06/lt for avgas.

On the general point of avgas cost...a litre of the highest quality/octane fuel you can buy for your car in Oz was AU$1.40-1.50/lt last I filled my BN car a few weeks ago. Given all the issues that attend Avgas (small refining quantities/transport & storage issues bought on because of the lead content etc - and, yes, that is just a result of greeny BS) I am not sure I can get too worked up about paying an extra 30 cents a litre for avgas.

What I DO get very worked up about is the level of taxation and what we get back for that Tax...ZERO. That is a different argument. I pay 30 cents a litre for diesel in Brunei and petrol is 50 cents a litre. Everything else you pay in UK/Oz is tax.

Keep in mind the premium fuel sold for cars has massive road tax included, AVGAS does not
So comparable prices arent quite as listed. The difference between them is much greater

Avgas is still a bargain compared to bottled water, but I don't recommend drinking it.

I was speaking to some Shell guys recently at YPAD and YPPF and they were of the opinion that Avgas should be around the same price, but no more than 10% dearer than 98PULP. One thing they specifically mentioned in coming to this conclusion was the lack of the fuel excise on Avgas.
I also mentoined the price we're being asked to pay out in the country to a petroleum distributor I took for a run last Sunday and he figured it shouldn't be more than 10 cents per litre difference than what you pay for it down in the big smoke.
I reckon that 30 cents per litre more is a little over the top.

Chimbu,

£1.60, I don't think so! I know what the farmer at our strip buys his fuel in at and our next lot of fuel is going to be priced at £1.86, with him making a very small profit. Here is the league table for the UK:

FLYER Forums • View topic - Avgas Price League Table

We have just had our VAT go up and we will all be North of £2 per litre soon. Many are already.

Flying is undoubtedly better value in Oz than in the UK. OTOH, the distances are greater and you can't nip over to France, so I am certainly not wide-eyed. But the price differential is remarkable.

Best,

QDM

For another comparison, in the US the price can vary as much as double within a couple of hundred miles. Miami Intl (MIA) is always the most expensive in S. Florida. No competition at that airport and the FBO chain is an expensive one. Currently US$8.00/USG. Only 23nm away at Homestead avgas is US$4.50 /USG self serve & US$4.75 full serve.

Meanwhile, a bit over 200 nm away, in N. central Florida, Palatka (28J) has if for US$3.79 /USG self serve. That's about the cheapest in FL although there are others closer to MIA still under $4/gal. Many. many more in the $4-$5 range.

We are now paying $2:10 to $2:40 (Depending where), you can buy premium ULP for $1:50. How do you work out we are not paying duty/taxes? A couple of years ago (Well mebe more) I remember paying around 60C a litre when lil johnny's friend John Anderson was aviation or minister for transport. They decided it wasn't fair for those rich aircraft owners to get fuel so cheap so the price went up to around $1:10? I'm not sure if it was duty, tax or just cause they could but Avgas definately has some component of gov ripoff.

$2 a litre around Melbourne or more.

Would be interested to know Jabba if there is less tax on your Avgas somehow as there is on petrol?

For those that don't know, the taxes are far less in Qld on regular unleaded petrol.

XXX

That state rebate ended a few years back when Anna Bligh was desperate for cash.........and avgas was not part of that then anyway.

Chimbu Warrior.......pump says $2.06 so either it changes when it detects your wallet near by, your eyes might be deceiving you

Massive disparity between some of the prices people have been quoting, taking locations into consideration.
