Gday all,
Inbetween jobs at the moment, just finished a stint in outback Aus and looking for next step in Flying career. Im Single engine VFR with a tad over 450 hrs, 210, 206, PA32, time along with the usual 172 and 182. Fairly competent with all items on Schedule 8. Ive flown into "bush" strips and have marginal weather experience.
Anyone got any suggestions were to go from here, ideally would like a gig on the east coast, or at least near civilisaion. but am willing to go anywhere in Aus. Im also considering options such as Africa, Fiji, Phillipines ect. if anyone has any info on that.
So if anyone knows of any companies which are hiring, looking to hire or expanding or just any tips in general I would appreciate hearing from you.

Hahaha, get back out there son, . Hate to say it, but 450hrs is still absolutely stuff all. Your best chances would be something like a scenic/charter company in the sticks. Maybe something in Darwin if you're lucky. Still a long way to go yet with your hours.

Marree and William Creek areas would be a good place to look at if there's still water there. Not a "career" option but could clock up some hours quickly that might lead to somewhere else.

450 hours? You're as good as a freshly minted CPL to an operator, in fact you are probably at a slight disadvantage. A 250 hour Pilot is a safer bet as he will stick around for longer, giving a better return on training.

Join the line for the next dry season up north. Your best bet will be singles in the Kimberley.

A word of advice, never sell your car, ditch your girl or quit your job until you have another lined up.

200 hours to an airline job eh? Did you see the news early this week where copilot on an Indian airline whacked the controls when he adjusted his seat and didn't know how to stop the descent! Captain entered emergency code to get back from his toilet break and arrested the descent some thousands of feet later...

Cant tell u much about the east coast, but if you want a job near civilisation, Broome, Kununurra or Darwin are all nice spots with jobs for baby pilots starting out like yourself. Having a few hours flying near storms I wouldnt think would hurt your chances, and assuming you have been working somewhere like Fitzroy Crossing or Hooker Creek when u said 'outback' so it shows you can handle being away from it all.
Although I am slightly curious as to why you are looking for a new job with only 450 hours?

in response, thanks for all the positive input. at the moment dont really have the funds to get IFR or anthing along those lines.
reason for looking for new job, old one was seasonal, contract finished and doesnt start up again till juneish next year.
ideally looking for something a bit long term, 2+ years, but will settle for pretty much anything.
anyone have any experience in africa, fiji, or anywhere like that?

Kakadu Air requires a Pilot and Flight Controller for our Jabiru operation.
A couple would be ideally suited for these positions.

Pilot

• Preferred 350 – 400 hrs.
• Dangerous goods awareness certificate.
• Previous experience on Cessna 200 series/GA8 is preferred.

Flight Controller

This position is for daily allocation of aircrafts and pilots, also the running of our terminal shop.

Duties would include the following:

• Allocation of planes and pilots
• Daily running of our souvenir shop
• Liaise with customers

The following is desirable:

• Experience in customer relations
• Ability to work unsupervised
• An understanding of general accounting is preferred

What about WA forrestry, they are normally looking for pilots at this time of year for the summer season. Then when you finish back to your old job!
