Thanks Alimeters, I was under the understanding SO's only got 2 nights in AUH.

I was in the SIM centre 2 weeks back and also saw numerous candidates. While I was there I noticed one SO courses under way and was told another starts late this month or earlier next.

Those in the know heard of any 73 NZ courses?

Or just SOs for now?

Thanks

As far as progression...you will be in the back seat for 3 years minimum but realistically for 5 years depending on movement. Also be aware that VARA (Regional ATR) guys will be integrating shortly and that they will be joining the seniority list as of Jan 2014 so you will be joining behind them. Any opportunities to move from SO will be based on 'seniority' so I guess you will be behind any other SO's who joined before you, and also the VANZ 737 guys and now also the 150 or so VARA guys...
I'm a bit confused as to the NZ operation now. My previous understanding was that once you're in NZ, you're staying in NZ with little opportunity to return to AU.

The quote above suggests that joining on the 777, you're now 'behind' all of the NZ 737 guys for an opportunity to move into the domestic narrow body fleet. Does this mean that if you took a NZ 737 position instead of a 777 position (ie, same seniority number), that you'd have exactly the same opportunity of moving onto that domestic AU fleet in the same amount of time?

Disclaimer : Its late and my question may not actually make any sense.

Yes, it's all the same seniority list now for VAI, VAA and VANZ. (And eventually VARA will be integrated assuming it goes through as previously mentioned). So if you get offered a SO spot or domestic or VANZ slot take it. Gets you on the list...

Not on the list, still ongoing discussions between the company and the multiple unions.

For those who have access to the AFAP website, they should read the VARA EBA updates for some background info on group DOJ and other things.

It would probably answer a few questions

I wouldn't say over stocked, but because of the new J class refits there won't be as many flights and therefore not as many SOs needed in the interim. A lot of the current SOs who have been given a B737 slot, are still waiting for a slot to open up for the sim so they can start their training. So I'd still think more SOs would still be needed.

I've also heard that the August B777 course has been cancelled due to the above?

A little communication from Virgin would be nice. A few of us are sitting at the reference check stage of the process and simply haven't heard a thing in weeks. Starting to wonder if we will get offered anything at all. :-/

Upcoming VARA positions have absolutely nothing to do with VA or the recent and current round of interviews and nor should they.
Positions being interviewed are to re-stock the hold file with a view to feed into VAI SO and VANZ FO positions.

Current VA crew have had no input on the VARA integration scenario.

As far as communication with HR, I'm not exactly sure what you are expecting. Weekly updates?
Whilst we look at our own cases in isolation, there are hundreds of files being worked on, and not only for pilot recruitment. VA still have interviews scheduled in the coming months and I can tell you from an operational standpoint we are very short on FO's. Resource planning changes all the time, so if you are at the reference check stage, just sit tight.
