Dear John,

Got this idea from another forum, and thought it might get some response here also...

With John Borghetti about to take over as CEO at Virgin Blue, what is it that you would like to see him change and introduce at VB?

I would suggest a start would be to get rid of this embarrasing carry on for good...

This is on Pacific Blue, but the same goes on onboard VB also. It's any wonder they can't attract and keep the corporate market.

Whilst not every flight is like this, this CM does get the pax attention, to LISTEN to the safety message...that's what its all about.

Those are my videos, taken by me, on a flight earlier this year -
I found this source as I wondered where the traffic was coming from to my videos.

what you saw in those videos was a welcomed relief to the boring and normally ignored warnings by flight attendants. The relaxed nature of the flight crew without doubt made the flight more enjoyable to everyone on the plane. Despite it being 3am in the morning, everyone was actually interested in the normally boring and repetitive pre-flight announcements. WE ACTUALLY LISTENED!.

There needs to be more flight crew like the one I encountered. Without doubt I have been, and will continue to, recommend the service of Pacific Blue plainly because of this. Thank you random flight attendant for making a normally boring flight enjoyable.

Might be mildly humourous the first time but I reckon it would wear thin if you flew with them more than once

Oh, I think you're being a bit harsh there...

You have to pick the crowd - and it's not that hard to do...

A bit of humour on a flight full of leisure pax (at the right time of day) can be a good thing - so long as it's delivered well. (If you're not good at telling jokes - don't do it on the PA?)

So here goes...

Instead of focusing on petty trivial issues, how about you retire the incumbent managements 'token' dust pan and brush, and rent an industrial strength leaf blower - it will assist you in doing some 'actual' housekeeping by removing en mass all the accumulated dust and dirt that has built up over the last few years in lower and middle management. The current practice of disposing of rubbish in the next room (or department) has to stop!

Add these to your list of “must do’s”–
· Dispose of the people responsible for actioning and authorizing the last minute promotion rush, particularly this week but also in the past few weeks which has seen people with either no prior management skills or any skill at all slotted into varying management roles and other assorted ludicrous positions. However John, be prepared to get your hands dirty and find a mighty big broom as the depth of dirt is massive. May I also suggest Moretein so you can flush out all the oxygen thieves that have already hidden themselves between desks, in dark areas and anywhere they can scamper to as they desperately seek self preservation.
· Not only clean out the deadwood and dirt sitting in lower to mid level management roles across the organization, but slice and dice all the unnecessary pleb management roles and so called ‘specialist’ roles that are nothing but a money wasting farce that has grown and festered uncontrollably under the ever watchful and approving gaze of many decade lingering has been's.
· Surround yourself with some select members of your former ‘team’ in a prior airline life. People who have proven themselves to be assets and real managers, inject some experience and fresh direction into the place. Please remove the umbrella of protection for the incompetents at DJ who should have been punted a decade ago, and put to rest the rot that has guided DJ to where it is today – barely in the black and merely a fifth of the launch value it was when floated.

Just to bring this back to the top - there's an absolute cracker of a 'dear john' letter circulating in crew rooms. It's one A4 page, quite well written, and reading each paragraph is like witnessing a succession of well targeted hits from the underdog in a fight.

No - I didn't do it - but I have a copy and I could hug whoever did!

Humour is great when the person responsible for it has....

1. Properly assessed the crowd to which it is being delivered.
2. Not relied on dubious (potentially offensive) subjects for their humour.
2. Is actually good at delivering it.

Unfortunately there are far too many people who violate at least one of the above. The problem with personal performances like the example above is that the performer is often a poor judge of their own skill. Thinking they are funnier or more entertaining than they really are.

There's nothing wrong with being professional, it doesn't offend the way humour can.

heffy - its a full page long, and all I have is a photocopy (seems someone put a pile of copies by every computer, in every briefing room etc). So no - i'm not going to retype it :-)

To sum it up - it's basically saying that what everyone has known for some time - the CC management is a chronically overstaffed and overpaid disgrace.
An extension of the above 'spring cleaning' posts - but much more succinct.

When they AGAIN send out emails wanting crew to take LWOP (as they have again just done), I think it's only fair that a completely un-necessary multi million dollar department be cut back to what is necessary.
