I am not saying you are wrong, nor that I am right -but I think my interpretation is more consistent than yours.
HL, you were right.

A recognised aeroplane 'has to be on a register of aircraft kept by a contracting state' etc. and RAAus doesn't meet the definition of a contracting state per the act.

Makes sense when you think about.
a CPL that has only flown recreational type aeroplanes wouldn't inspire a lot of confidence.

Cheers!

I thought the original question was about PVT ops.........

If you have your ppl, dont own you own plane, have a 'normal' paying job and lifestyle. how much do you spend a year on this hobbie.

I opt not to calculate what it costs to own my Bonanza; to do so would be a painful reality. In general, works out to $120/hr +/-.
..... in 1980!

Exactly DR!

I'd buy one tomorrow if I thought it cost $120 per hour to run one! ($120 dry perhaps maybe at a stretch!)

Yep as Ian said the cheapest options are microlight/sport aircraft that is for sure. Something like a bonanza or a c182 will just rape your wallets....
