Light aircraft crash lands at Bankstown

Light aircraft crash lands at Bankstown
October 20, 2009 - 12:42PM
AAP
A man has escaped injury after crash landing a single engine aircraft at Bankstown Airport in Sydney's west.
The plane hit the runway about noon (AEDT) on Tuesday but the male pilot, who was flying solo, was later given the all-clear by paramedics, airport spokeswoman Meredith Laverty said.
His age, level of experience, or what might have caused the crash was not yet known, she said.
The airport activated its emergency response plan and police, fire crews and ambulance attended the scene.
The runway is currently closed and is expected to reopen later on Tuesday afternoon.
The airport's two other runways will continue to operate, Ms Laverty said.

Really I stall every time I land.......and without bending the nosewheel strut (according to the pic on TV tonight).

Seriously, how can you tell what happened from the little info available?

Care to share, after all that buildup? A rumour network's no fun without the actual rumours.

It was a long and somewhat animated discussion of another accident at Bankstown... which more or less centred around whether the aircraft was stalled before arrival...

Does anybody know what actually happened????

I saw the whole thing from the end of the runway. The pilot made a very early downwind join from only about 200ft. Never really gaining much more height then turn for a tight base and look like he was doing a glide approach. Could not really see the touchdown because of the runway slope but the aircraft did seem to sink quite fast on very short final.

Was he trained at Oxford? Maybe he was beyond V1 and had to go?

V1???? it was a 150 he still had half the runway to go... the importance of a T/O safety brief, it reinforces in your mind what to do if you have a problem.

Does anybody know how many hours he had????
