Se/me Cir

Currently at the pointy end of my CPL and was wondering is it best to do a SECIR and when the time comes when moving up into twin job do a renewal in a twin to gain a MECIR. Already have a initial twin endo

thanks

I don't think it is much cheaper to do a SECIR as opposed to a MECIR, as you can do the majority of the MECIR in a single anyway, switching to the multi for the last few sorties!

It is however cheaper to keep a SECIR current if you are paying yourself...

Cheaper.. yes
More useful.. no

I would go with the MECIR. It is more exposure to the real environment - in cloud with a bigger, faster, more complex aircraft.

No point to a SE CIR unless you're intending to use it for PVT ops or to fly something like a C208 - which you can also do with a ME CIR for the same cost.

Got a set of Jepps for sale too........

Having a few renewals under your belt always looks good on the resume!

If you do a MECIR you'll do most of the flying on one engine anyway

Now that's funny 'Peter' True though:-)
The writer is saying he is about finished his CPL so one can only assume that he intends to fly commercially in which case a twin rating is far better.
What twin endo do you already have JB? Cost is everything these days (has been 4ever really) when it comes to flying but a CV with a few hrs on singles IFR may not be the catylist to get that job as against a CV that has at least a bare twin IFR rating. At the end of the day, yr choice & SE IFR has it's place but usually for PVT ops more than anything

Thanks for the input you can always count on the ppruners for advice. I did my initial twin on the duchess and will be flying commerically. A few extra grand for the twin option is probably better spent just for the extra experience.

thanks again
