Slingair's new contract

Just heard from a friend that Slingair's got the Argyle contract. A year ago Air North was running two Bandeirante's twice a day for the 53 nm one way journey. Vincent had a bit of a go at it and I don't remember who else.

Apparently they've got three months to come up with a 19-seater. This must be what they had in mind when they advertised for a pilot worth $80,000 pa. Pretty crafty (in a good way) making it look like a C310/PA31 gig.

Anybody have thoughts on what they'll use? Beech 1900 perhaps?

Good luck to them,

FRQ CB

wasn't there a post awhile back where a NT company had purchased a EMB110 but we all didnt know where it would go?

Could it have been sling air after all that?

Then again there are a few 19seaters floating around on the market here in Australia

1900D's, EMB110's, Metro III & 23's

Pick and choose?

The new 400 series Twin Otter would be perfect.

Believe the Airnorth Bandits are on the East Coast for sale. Being there for about 12 months. AN also ran Metro's on the route, as well as Brasilia's, but would imagine the cycle rate would be horrendous on such ashort sector. Wouldn't Slingair use their Caravans?

Actually, BHP do. and so do a few of the bigger ones. they prefer multi, but will use SE if required. I have carried most of the major players in the resource sector in both SE Piston and SE Turbine.

That isn't my experience. BHP/RIO wouldn't even discuss SE turbine and if it wasn't twin they weren't going. You must have some serious contacts to get them into a single because most of the contracts demand twin engine aircraft and pilots with more hours than those getting into regionals.

That certainly is how it used to be, but things are a changing. they used to require hours on the space shuttle for the pilots, but they are now realizing that their requirements are getting harder and harder to meet and adjustments are being made for it. BHP are by far the hardest to comply with when it comes to requirements, but they are getting better. some of the work I have done for them could only be done in a single, and they kicked and fought the whole way, but relented in the end due to necessity.
If you can get through a Harts audit relatively well, you stand a far better chance of being on the service suppliers list.

B1900's are the rumour for sling air. Air North only operated the metros on the knx-gyl run when one of the bandits was very, very u/s. which was every other week. Metro also does the drw-gyl runs weekly and a braz does the daily knx-gyl run

Not surprising really, given that they used to have the contract between Kununurra and Argyle before Airnorth took it over. Used to be done with a combination of PA31's and C310's. Maybe they will just continue to do it this way again, or is it a contract requirment for a 19 seat Turboprop?
Single Pilot IFR to Argyle at night in the Wet season was always a bit of fun!!

I would have thought that a Beech 1900D wouldnt be much use due to the high costs in maintenance for such short cycles / hrs ratio's?

I understand the EMB-110 use...

Wouldn't a Twin Otter the best for the trip? It's designed for this type of operation?

But what do I know, I aint a pilot or running an aviation company
