ADL Bases??
Just wondering which of the airlines allows you as a pilot to be based in Adelaide?
Do most of the big ones do such as Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin?? Any internationals put a base there? Someone from Cathay or Emirates etc been able to base themselves out of ADL??
Also what is the deal with paxing to another base? Say for example if you were based in sydney but wanted to live out of adelaide can you pax on a syd-adl flight and back again when you have finished??
Just asking the question as I am beginning to look at making the step into airlines and really wanted to be based form ADL.
Cheers,
El

Mate, you will find that VB only has BNE, SYD and MEL bases for flight crew at this stage, Jet* had an Adelaide base until last week, Cathay have flight crew on the A330 based there but other than that you will be looking at a job with REX, Sharp or Alliance airlines to be permenantly based in Adelaide.
And yes, for the early flights out of all other Australian ports you just have to get up early in the supplied hotel room.
Hope that helps.

MR Hat,
You can jam that comment about Rex not being an airline right your @rse. Yes we might have some problems but that was not called for. If we are not an airline why are we one of the most profitable in the world. We might not have the conditions that we want but at least we have a job.

REX
Sooge, I defend your right to speak up, but why do you defend our airline that is being F*#^ed from above. Our EBA has expired, nothing is being done because I believe the Federation is confering with LKH with T & C's before it is put before the pilot group. When are we going to wake up !!!!!!!!!!!

The only "Airlines" in Australia are Qantas VB and J*. Some will refer to J* and VB as Low cost carriers.
As for REX, its a regional.
Do you refer to yourself as an "Airline" pilot and you fly a SAAB or a metro?

Mr Hat and all,
In reply I believe that Rex is an airline, it may not be operating jets and all but we still have to conform to the stringent requirements imposed by casa. We have a CAR217 C&T outfit, arguably the highest standards in the industry.
Again I mention that we have problems from above but tell me a company that doesn't. Rex puts food on my family's table and at the end of the day I am proud to wear the Rex uniform because I know that I am doing the best job I can do. May be if we were all a little more proud of what we have we might be a little better off. I was with KD then administration then Rex from day one. I really dont want to loose what we have all fought so hard for.

At the risk of upsetting the passion and loyalty of the regional airline pilot, I think when Mr. Hat says "Rex is not an Airline" he means it's a low capacity regional, which is in the General Aviation arena. So technically speaking he is correct, that's why the regionals dont rate a mention on the world stage in the Airline Industry.
As for "Highest Standards" according to who or what, is this as you see it among yourselves within your own organisation, against what measure. From my own personal observation and from what is written among yourselves in these forums, this is highly doubtful. For example I notice the first officer is not even on the flight deck during boarding, quaint but plain stupid and hardly "the highest standards"
Something to think about before you run off and blindly but understandably defend your Airline.

Thanks Xeptu.
Believe it or not it wasn't intended as a cheap shot at Rex (i'd rather do that in a rex thread). I was just saying that there were no airlines based in adl.
And one things for sure it has nothing to do with jets either. Many operate Jets around the country and i still wouldn't call them an "Airline". They are regionals at best and charter companies in most instances.
