Suggestions for GFPT training
Hi guys
I'm hoping to do my GFPT around my holiday period, which is the whole of July. I would appreciate any input about whether or not this actually possible (given that I would have seven day availability), and if it is, any schools that you would recommend.
My main concerns involve quality instruction and location (am willing to travel anywhere but am looking for a school in a location where weather isn't going to be a problem unlike Melbourne winter). I would also be interested in locations where circuits can be done within the actual airfield instead of traveling to another airfield.
Would appreciate any input from anyone,

But better get your application for your student licence and medical done and submitted real quick! Because you can't go solo without them and CASA may not process things as quick as you would like!

Speak to Melbourne Flight Training at Moorabbin Airport...

I got all my admin done about a year ago. I'm really thinking about the weather and the time frame here. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get the training done at Moorabbin due to the weather in Melbourne at that time. I was thinking something along the lines of Perth or Brisbane.

RQAC at YBAF. they might be fairly busy this time of the year though. Last time I checked there was a month waiting list since all instructors were flat out.

ASIC's are two years, and only need a Class 2 medical until you want a CPL
Usually we recommend "wannabe commercial pilots" do a Class 1 medical the first time around just to make sure there's no career limiting conditions, but after that, why renew a Class 1 you're not using?

Give it a go, if you dont finish in the holidays due weather, you can always do the last few flights on weekends can't you?
Stay local so you can continue if this happens. Speak to the school you want to go to about what you want, and see if they can provide an instructor and a plane often enough for you to do it. Check their booking schedule and speak to students there to get an idea of how flat out the staff and the fleet are.

Whoever you choose to learn to fly with, make sure you have the instructor to teach you how to fly a synthetic trainer first. Save heaps of money because you will already be familiar with terminology, effects of controls, turning, climbing and descending etc as well as flaps etc and even take off and landing techique. There are no delays at the holding point and the money is well spent.
