VCE/HSC Marks. Do They Play A Major Role?

VCE/HSC Marks. Do They Play A Major Role?
Hi guys,
I'm interested as to how big of a role your VCE/HSC marks actually play in regards to an employment position such as flight crew for an Aussie airline?
Do they only require you have the passed required subjects such as English and Maths and disregard your scores for other subjects? Does a high ENTER score play a role in employment?
Say if I were to have, errm, mucked around a bit too much at school and didn't really get the marks I now wish I had, but have completed a QF approved mathematics bridge course and the required pass in English, would this be enough to become employed despite the poor marks obtained during school?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Despite what your high school careers adviser told you, no, the world does not revolve around your ENTER.
All Qantas etc are looking for with your high school results is a PASS in Physics and Maths.
But if you've got really poor marks, it might be a good idea to demonstrate what you've done since then to improve your study habits. Maybe show your CPL/ATPL exam results, if they're all quite high...

VCE/HSC passes in required subjects? You either passed them or you did not. High distinction on first go or repeated six times to barely pass, don't care.
Likewise ATPL.
Passing any exam on the first attempt with a high score is for personal satisfaction only, it seems.
You only have to look at the spelling, the grammar and
some of the logic displayed on these forums to see that the standard is not as high as we may think!

Yeh you're right physics is no longer a requirement. And with your VCE score, if they do look at it, it will only be after they have looked at other more relevant scores like ATPLs, CPLs, etc, so don't worry too much, if you want to provide a good impression then work hard and do well in these.

Thanks all for the prompt replies,
I'm currently undergoing my CPL training with no problems and I'll aim for top scores on my exams, unlike my school exams.
It's seems strange that QF require secondary education whereas airlines such as DJ don't, or am I misinterpreting something here?

'HT' it's not strange at all that not all airlines require passes in certain subjects, it's just that QF are living in the past for no sensable reason, & their paying for it!
But if you have the chance to improve yourself on paper do it, once yr in like the ATPL subjects you will need very little of it all anyway. Good luck

Van Gough, and fair enough. Its their playground, they can set any minimum requirements they like.
If your 'friend' wants to get a job with Qantas, go and finish HSC, taking care to include the subjects Qantas want.
Its not hard to pass Year 12.
Oh, and McKes - it doesnt matter how well you do in Maths. Just make sure you pass it!

What I found my increased qualifications useful for, was opening more options ahead. I did find, however, that the latest qualification became a further rung higher up the ladder, allowing for better jobs.
For example;
Universities care about your ENTER and your subjects.
Employers care about licences and endorsements. In GA, my degree was of little importance directly to my job, and got no additional money for having it.
Further employers cared about previous work experience, hours mostly, and quals'... I was never asked about school or Uni.
After you've finished school, and on your way, the ENTER will only be a number printed on A4 paper.
Ultimately, this is an industry built upon public respect for professionals (they assume we're smart!). Hit the books hard, there is probably a reason to understand everything you get taught. Pride yourself on your education, but it DOES NOT make you WISE. Use education to get you as far as you can. If QF want maths and physics, get it done, or accept that this avenue won't be available to you.
If your passionate about everything aviation, then it won't ever feel like work.
Best of luck, aim high, and achieve what you want.
