Archerfield Theory Courses?

Since Bob has moved to Redcliff and I live too far south to really make the drive worthwhile for a 2 month continuious period (family etc). I’m after any organisations or even dedicated theory instructors based at YBAF.

Considering taking a flight planning and performance position later this year with one of the major’s and would like to knock out CPL and ATPL theory/exams in a block of 3 months fulltime [theory only]. Is this being unrealistic? Should I try and make it 4 months?

I currently hold a PPL.

Any recommendations folks?
Thanks in advance…

You may want to give Ground Time a look. They're located in the old Macflite/Jetflite building, next to FTA. Have no experience with them, so other than telling you they exist, I can't offer you any insight into them...

rexxxxy,

I just finished Bob's CPL course (then IREX) up in Redcliffe and commuted from Caloundra (45-50mins drive when the traffic is good), many other commuted from the Western Suburbs. I can say nothing but good things about Bob, it's well worth the time, money and inconvenience that commuting might bring.

If your planning on doing your ATPL's as well then Nathan Higgins @ AFT is the man to do it, I have yet to hear a single negative thing about him, though cannot vouch for him just yet as I won't be starting until May.

Both providers have home stay arrangements, which get you room, board and food for around $220 a week, not sure if this is an option, but quite a few people that live in Brisbane/Sunshine Coast did that so they didn't have to commute.

If you have any specific question feel free to PM me.

Best of luck

I would consider Ground Time at Archerfield, next to FTA. They are still really starting to get going, but I know that the guy running the theory classes at the moment is very well sought after and extremely experienced, I daresay when he left his previous employer and number of students moved with him. But as far as ground school options at Archerfield go its definately worth a look.

Been through Ground Time myself and found it to be....interesting!! Not in a bad way of course. Peter Griffiths is an excellent instructor if a little eccentric but he knows his stuff inside and out and has been around the block more times than i could probably count!! He uses a lot of Bob Taits stuff and they seem to know each other reasonably well so are on the same sort of level which may help you as you've been with Tait already.

His CPL course is fairly intensive and requires a lot of time on your part, generally run from 8am in the morning till approx 3-4 in the arvo but according to the timetables is expected to finish in just under 2 months. I've completed my BAK and PPL with him and believe that if your willing to put in the effort it is possible to finish it within their set times but it ain't easy!!

Thanks guys..

Might give Ground Time a go. I see they are together with AV8 (same owner) and since I have been quite impressed with what I have seen of that setup so far, they might just be a good fit.

I have the CBT disc's from AIRs in PER so might self study some subjects together with the books.

Any particular CPL subjects that folks recommend be done in the classroom instead of at home? Similar to the "hard" ATPL subjects.

Thanks

I would say definitely performance, its good to get a decent handle on the echo mk4 from the start, peter griffiths can definitely do that for you, depending on your understanding of physics possibly aerody.

Not saying anything negative about AFT, they cover the ATPL subjects well, but what Sparse (PG) has shown me covers Nathan's equivalent in [I]much[I] more detail. Considering a very large organisation offered well into six figures for his material and a major manufacturer (read as one of two) was very perturbed when he departed a previous employer, well........
Peter's background is as a 727 QF Skipper and his presentation of ground theory is the best I've seen.
Keep an eye out for the 737 sim (in the hangar being assembled with possibly a 320 to follow) and LOFT / Multi-Crew courses on offer.
