Hi guys,
This is a bit of a continuation of the CTC wings NZ thread.
I was looking at doing their course then came accross the Western Australian Aviation College Adv. Diploma in Aviation (Aeroplane) which from what i understand takes you from 0 hours to your CPL which would be about 250-300?hrs
I just have some questions and hope someone can shed some light on
First of all what are these guys like to train with?
The instructors knowledgeable?
Good planes?
Is the course well set out and done at a good pace?
And just any general comments and knowledge about WAAC is much appreciated. The good bad and ungly of them.
Also what are the job prospects after completing a course like this, easier to get a job, harder or the same as anyone who does it independantley?
Also do they offer a way to pay the 43 grand off? or is it better to get a student loan and the big question is how the hell does a 19/20 year old pilot pay off a loan of almost 50 grand? if your earning ****e money, 2 jobs including your flying??

Heres their pricing guide, i too thought it was too cheap but most things seem to be included id say theres a few things missing off the list though.
The cost of flight training will vary, dependent on the student's rate of progress, but the following is a guide for the Advanced Diploma which includes a CASA Commercial Licence:

That cost is assuming you follow the syllabus to the letter. I would budget for a bit over that.
The instructors are part of the Royal Aero Club of WA team. There used to be a group of instructors dedicated to teaching WAAC, I am not sure if that is still the case. In times gone by you would only fly with a Grade 2 or 1 on the WAAC course so I assume that is still the case.
From memory I think you pay the $7000 up front then pay around $3500 a month. I haven't done the course, nor do I work there so my recollections of the prices could be off the mark.

I kind of expected to have to pay the diploma fees up front, all the other TAFE coursed ive done thats what you do.
Hopefully they will negotiate a payment plan would save me getting a loan, as i can work a job or 2 while studying.
Will email them tomorrow when i get time and see how it works.

Hey people,
have emailed the WAAC a couple of times without reply. i would call but i am too busy working by buttocks off earning money for my flying to find time to call...
Do they require the whole lump sum of 50k upfront or is there a payment plan, like 20k now and 30k later(obviously before i finish)?
any info would be great.

WAAC is a snagger factory mate. Do yourself a favour and shop around. Personally i would find a good school, request the same instructor for your training and get stuck into it.
There are a few cadet options now at REX and QF, try them out!
Of course if you go the Uni route, i have been hearing you can hex your training now, which is the way i would have gone if given the option when i started. I would still have bucket loads of dosh in the bank and would have been able to chase more skirt when i was up North

Give the REX road a big miss! QF is good if you get in.
Swan TAFE run an ATPL course for a FRACTION of the cost. Takes a year, diploma at the end. And you have a few days off to do your flying. ATPL stuff is done by Rob Avery himself so its good quality! If you wish to continue to Uni you get 1st year exemption at ECU.
Any diploma in aviation is realistically worthless, its command hours that matter!
Never pay upfront, good sign their cash flow river is pretty dry!

hey there, i am now a WAAC student and i am enjoying it very much, The payment plan is the $9 grand before you start to cover the theory and then they you pay $5,000 a month until the fees are paid.
its not a bad place and if you are dedicated enough you will be fine.
