Jobs for yanks?
Subject pretty much says it. Just curious as to whether US citizens are still getting jobs down under, particularly in NZ. If so, what are typical qualifications and what sort of jobs are they good for? Appreciate the time.

And in reverse?
How possible is it for say an Aussie to go to the USA and work? Excluding any family, or under 29 type things like we have with the UK?
I assume its just as difficult. Never comes up for discussion around here.

For us oldies Jabba it's damn near impossible, unless of course you can afford to 'buy' your green card!

Given that the last time I saw a list of corporate jet regos in Aus many of them were still in N rego, especially the big stuff, I suspect there is still jobs there.

No Binghi..............just a retaliatory question!
I think the Aust/UK thing is also available as a USA thing now, but only till you are 29.
I am a bit past that mate!
Mind you I could go aeroplane hunting for local buyers if you want me too......a paid holiday is rather appealing!

I asked because there's a listing for Air New Zealand on airlinepilotcentral.com (clearing house for pay and hiring info for airlines which is pretty obviously tailored to US pilots). I thought maybe this indicated that US citizens could get right to work with a job offer. Apparently that's not the case. Thanks for the info pass-a-frozo.
And no, the grass isn't that brown here at the moment, but in the long term I do not see a bright future for my descendants living in the States, so I'm trying to figure out what options are open.
Oh, sorry I got your nickname wrong.

PAF ok how about we start with your wage? 50% cut starting tomorrow. How would that feel eh? Oh and you have to move to McMurdo base in Antarctica where you will be bonded for $500,000 and you can't take anything with you except your toothbrush.

Maybe that was the wrong word, and it was meant in a friendly debating manner ....... and a bit of Aussie kind of "How do I get one of your beers....well how do I get one of yours!!!" kind of thing.
I all seriousness, why not try to get the job and talk to whoever about the immigration issue. Worth investigating. You never know unless you go!
And even us Aussies will admit in private that NZ is not that bad

So how do you buy a green card? Thought they were really tight about that sort of thing.
Capatalism at it's finest!
PS: By old, I meant over 29 and ineligibible for a holiday working visa...

I looked in to it a little and it appears that having a degree and a job offer puts you right on the threshold of having your application considered. Perhaps in the next few years, the job market will dictate allowing a few disgruntled septics over. I'll keep an eye on it.
Thanks again for the help.
