One dead in Sydney plane crash
Tuesday Mar 18 11:00 AEDT
By ninemsn staff

9 NEWSWATCH: Did you witness the crash?

A small acrobatic plane has crashed in an outer Sydney suburb, killing one person and injuring another.

The NSW Ambulance Service said one man had been removed from the wreckage at the scene in Oran Park in south west Sydney.

The injured man was taken to Nepean Hospital. The extent of his injuries is not yet clear

The crashed plane is part of the Red Baron Adventures fleet, which operates from Bankstown Airport.

Beyond confirming the crash, Red Baron Adventures refused to comment.

Information from the Red Baron website suggests the crashed plane is a Pitts Special S2A competition aerobatic aircraft.

More to come.

Lost a few mates in Korea when we were flying Mustangs and Meteors. The pain does not go away.

Now a young fellow I have known for many years who aspired to follow me into aviation is on his way to the big hangar in the sky.

Bryscen was an experienced aerobatic pilot having won multiple championships and it is inconceivable that his was an error of judgment.

Best wishes to the survivor and hopefully you will be able to give us the reasos why?

Condolences to Marianne and family.

A few more details on smh. Very very sad, condolences to the family. It's amazing that someone else can just walk away!

http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/...602348103.html

It is understood the man who survived was Red Baron Flight Training chief instructor Keith Ker, who has worked with the company based at Bankstown Airport for about 10 years.

He is in a stable condition at Nepean Hospital.

Mr Ker had been sitting in the front seat when the plane crashed into trees.

He was reportedly already up and walking near the badly damaged bi-plane by the time help arrived.

One of the nicest Gentleman I have ever had the pleasure to enjoy flying with and to be around whilst enjoying a common love of aviation.

Keith and his team only gave me 20 hours or so of aeros instruction, but are responsible for a huge amount of what I understand about flying today.

Best wishes to K2 with hopes for a quick recovery. I know the loss of a friend will be difficult to deal with.

Sincerest condolences all those who knew the pilot.

I found out tonight that Bryscen had been killed in a crash. He was one of my dad's best mates (and work colleague for around 20 years).

Dad seemed okay when I arrived home, but mum says he was extremely upset earlier. I've met Bryscen on many occasions, and always found him to be friendly and courteous. I'm sorry to hear of this event.

If anyone can direct me to relevant sources of information about the incident, or where to go looking, the assistance will be appreciated.

Thankyou.

Bryscen will be wearing his Red Baron shirt under his suit.
He really loved the Pitts, even though he had recently been upgrading to an Edge 300. He flew with a song in his heart, that's why he was such a smooth flyer. His loss is immense. There's a big hole in the sky without him.

Just heard the news while at the Wanaka airshow.

I know some of the guys at the Red Baron from when I used to fly FFF in the early 90s (if it is triple-fox).

Sincerest condolences and prayers to the family involved.

RIP Bryscen and condolences to family and friends.

Does anyone have any idea yet what might have caused this accident?

I heard a rumour that another Pitts may have had a dead stick landing at Camden since then. Does anyone know if this is true?

Yes - I believe Curtis Aviation's S-2B VH-TKV had an engine failure over Oran Park (about 2 miles away) and the pilot managed to dead-stick it back in to Camden. The aircraft is now in the hangar without a prop. Nice bit of flying, given the sink rate of a Pitts!
