If so, which ones, and what prices could i be looking at?

How cheap do you need them to be...........i think they are as low as you will ever see.............maybe you should have been around 25 years ago
Standby is a term used for say QF staff travel, and they get bumped off at a moments notice!
Book a flight and just go.............

Sheez, they're bugger all at the moment, surely you can afford the airfare??
You couldn't even drive to Sydney for that price.

The thing is, i'm at school at the moment... therefore-no job, surviving off pocket money, and a person very close to me lives in sydney...
that is why i'm querying about standy fares

No such animal these days, afraid the price of what we have is pretty good and hard to get much better. Gotta remember out there these days in busy periods especially even airline crew buy full fare (discount) tickets on the net rather than risk standby travel, and in a lot of cases the deep discount tickets aren't much more expensive than airline I.D travel after all the taxes are paid.
Impulse with the 717s used to offer a really good 'youth' standby fare whereby you turned up at the airport, and if seats were available and you were under 23 I think it was, seats were available for $45 each way. Used it a few times and always got on, was a good deal!

yep, i went to the airport this evening (picking up a relative) and asked about standby,
VB only does standby for staff
QF said a straight 'no'
and i didnt ask JetStar, i'd imagine it'd be similar to QF
Thanks anyway :P
If anyone wants some company if they are flying a light plane down, gimme a shout :P

'Standby is a term used for say QF staff travel, and they get bumped off at a moments notice!'
Are, poor things - and do they still pay a whole 10% of the fare?
(Nothing pees me off more than to pay through the nose for Buisness Class, only to find a QF employee sitting next to me in a better seat!)

In the good ole days domestic carriers (in particular Ansett) did have stand by seats available, the cost was around 45% of the full economy airfare! With the introduction of de-regulation it became possible to purchase discount fares on all flights, many of which are now below 45% of the full economy fare, which basically made 'stand-by fares' defunct .
That is why these days the term is only used in conjunction with 'staff travel'.
Cheers, HH.

Staff Travel aint all that to be honest...
Ever shown up for a return flight from Hong Kong and been told you are 80th in the standby queue? How about having to fly using SYD as a hub with each leg being standby? so going AKL-SYD-HKG you have to disembark in SYD, get baggage, stand in a queue for immigration, stand in another queue for customs, run upstairs, checkin, stand around until the flight closes for confirmation you're actually going, then try to race through immigration (ie. stand in another queue) and then finish with a sprint through the terminal to the gate so you do not affect on time performance and face disciplinary action... all the while 'transfer passengers' are relaxing in a lounge somewhere...
and then you get to do it all again on the way home (assuming of course that 80 people noshow)...
Sure its cheap, but you get what you pay for...

Happy hour fares
Go to virginblue.com.au around lunch time and check out the 'happy hour' fares. They change day to day according to available seats. You're likely to find something cheap(er) there.

Staff travel domestically is almost useless now. With the fuel levy and other taxes, the very real possibility of being bumped off at the last minute, the uncertainty. The aircraft are so full of fare paying pax, It used to be a privilege, now its a bit of a curse.
e.g.
CNS-BNE with QF staff travel $75, (standby)
or
CNS-BNE with jet*, $149 (confirmed)
If you want to try and take your family as well, try getting bumped off the last flight of the day, add a hotel room, the taxis, the meals. Very soon it's cheaper to go full fare.

Surely there's gotta be plenty of available birds in Brisy Pyro, without having to go to Sydney just to get ya fix, .

Clearedtoreenter,
Awe...you poor thing....having to sit next to a QF employee who is using an industry benefit. God forbid anyone sitting in business who has not paid full fare

ah, Sheila. - i suspected so.
fluff, whatever.
I'm loyal to my fluff who does in fact live in Sydney.
She used to live here.. long story..
what, like me?
I've been bumped to business class on one Brisbane to Sydney flight, and one Tokyo to London flight... Both of those were on frequent flyer points too.. so it was pretty much getting business class by paying airport fees and taxes etc.
