Incident at Hoxton Park
Just saw a news flash report of an aircraft, allegedly skidded off the runway at YHOX. Looked to be a Duchess.
Any further info anyone?

..........ahhhh the poor "fergy" of the sky............actually nice to fly within their capabilities. You can't hurt yourself too much in a Duchess..............they simply don't go fast enough to damage !
Does anybody remember how they 'waddle' about when taxing?..............I always found them to be 'soft' under foot !:-)
PA39........now there's a real mans plane !
How many left now?
CW
p.s...........Dr, yr's is just fine, in fact the best airframe design, although just short of one eng that's all !

Didn't hit the Mooney did they, Jenna?
Wally, your legs are too short! Several hundred hours in Duchesses, and not a one waddled even with my huge arse in it Must have been the forward C of G.
PA39? Pffffft! The one with the EK Holden window winder on the roof? You know the saying about the Tin Comanche.......any landing you can walk away from!
Haveagoodweekend peoples!

......yeah yeah yeah 'huge'.........ok admit some of what you say is true about the 'tin can' but I used to own a few old holdens so the chrome 'window' winder i the roof brings back memories Still think the Duchess waddles, soft U/C carriage like it's clb performance !
'airmuster' do you really think someone would care if an MU2 was left alone?....who would want to pinch one anyway? I know their dangerous even sitting there on the ground. In fact I saw 2 of them parked almost next to @ other the other day at EN, thought there was conspiracy going on
'atlas'..........PA 60?...........must be 2X PA30's strapped together

I've just spoken to someone I know who works at Hoxton who saw it happen. It was indeed JRT, being operated by a Bankstown based flying school. They rejected a takeoff, and overran the runway. Apparently 4 POB, all of then unscathed. Aircraft sustained some sort of damage to the undercarriage as a result of digging in to the soft ground at the end of the runway - I'm told it looked reminiscint of QF1.
Any news on who the school is?
Personally I just found the duchie painful to taxy. Lots of force to get it to turn, then lots more to make it go straight again.

Atlas -
Thats about 5 Duchesses in 4 months... Someone at CASA should be looking into the poor standard of A/C building at Beechcraft... lol
Everyone else -
I know, I know... don't all write in its a joke Atlas should hopefully get!
But who was slagging off the Aerostar!?? What a fantastic machine! Sportscar of the sky. I have spent many an hour sitting at the helm of the humble PA60 just thrilled to be there rather than driving the truck that is the PA31. I have run it in (and out again!) of crappy dirt strips in the middle of QLD and all sorts other crappy places, and they have never let me down!
Coming back into Sydney one day last year, I had a high power setting, and a ROARING tailwind, GPS was showing 273kts groundspeed. What other 6 seat piston twin can do that (AND still be able to use the airplane afterwards! )!!
But I digress... The Duchess tends to 'waddle' due to its trailing link underarriage set up. If the tension goes out of the links, they get worse, and as they all are well past middle age, like most of us, the tension has gone out of certain places that it used to be! lol

Capt Wally,
What I meant with do not leave the MU2 unattended was referring to the auto pilot. Alas the accident near Meeka.
Still love them..... pocket rocket

Okay 'airmuster' makes sense:-)
Remember that MU2 that gave a dirt bath to the poor hapless pilot doing night freight into ML back in the 80's?. Not too sure of the details but I do remember the event. I was working at ML on the night only a few clicks from the accident site. I believe the radar tape showed he was on the 27 ILS, several times but not as a continious track. Low time driver or low time on type I think, ice on wings prior to the approach or details to that effect.
Also saw the funniest thing with an MU2 during the 80's also.
SP nght freight again this time just taxiing off from the apron in pouring rain when the guy missed judged the edge of the apron & collided with a concrete access pit used for the flushing of the jet fuel pipes. The result was a very bent airframe & prop! Not to mention his ego !
STill sleek beast they are
Sorry for the thread drift but lifes pretty boring just talking about a wobbly Duchess !

p.s................agree 'stationair8' prettyboy PA39's, still they looked a lot better inside compared to the old PA30's The panel was so much more modern, well was back then !

Sorry also for the drift.
I think ice was the only real problem with the MU-2. I know she took a bit of handling because of those flaperons etc, but she sure is a sleek beast.
Back to Duchess.......... ho hum so sloooowwwww
