Cat 1 Medical.....

Hey guys,

Quick question, i have my cat 2 medical. Since im going down to Perth in the next couple of weeks on holidays i want to do a Cat 1 Aviation medical, as we don't have a doctor up here that does them!

I've got a cat 1 railway medical, which i had to get bloods, ECG, piss test, good groping from the DR, blood pressure etc, hearing and lung capacity tests.

I'm just wondering if the Aviation cat 1 is pretty much the same stuff or is there a bit more involved?

Cheers

Pretty much the same stuff, however includes a visit to an ophthalmologist to do weired siht to your eyes and a visit to an audiologist for a hearing test.

You will need to make appointments well in advance, ring the doc who will test you for the class 1 and ask him which ophthalmologist and audiologist he recommends and make appointments with them all - otherwise you will be making further trips to PER for the other specialists.

Good luck.

Depending on your age and the CASA risk assessment done by the LAME you may also have to go an a treadmill with a heart DR. Again - book it all up well ahead.

The full DAME handbook is here and might answer any detailed questions.

And don't forget to take your sunglasses to the Ophthalmologist. If you don't have any, the walk back to the car and the drive home will be 'interesting' for you.

I've done that twice now...you'd think I'd learn...

Yeah, rang phase 5 office up but hes busy with woodside stuff and hes not able to do them apparently which is a crock of because it will only take a few mins.

Might try and see if i can speak to him directly and not the stupid receptionist.

Thanks for the info guys

You dont spend much time with Dr's anyway, all they do is feel you up, check your bits and pieces work and look over results to make sure your healthy.

They get a nurse to do everything else.

I did speak to him directly and he told me i'd have to wait a few weeks to be able to get an appointment and that i may have to go to perth to see some specialists but he said its probaly easier to do everything in Perth, as you can wait up to 2 months to get into specialists up here
