There was some talk on here about having to pay for your own standardization (about $3K's worth) .. don't know whether that's still the case, so may be current FTA instructors can clarify?
And welcome to Oz .. Adelaide's one of our bigger country towns.

Be wary of FTA. Read all the FTA posts on pprune.
On average 30 incidents a week, flight instructors overworked, busting your duty times, getting no respect from Seoff Effrican managers. On top of that they'll charge you for your staff progression training and will lock you in for 3 years, if you leave they ring around all major airlines incl regionals and nationals, tell them how bad a boy you were.
The place is a sausage factory. I'd rather cook some pies on the wharf instead. I'm lucky i don't work for these guys (i work for an RPT company next to it but have lots of mates working there and visiting FTA - i.e. CASA.)
I challenge anyone working there to show me wrong, but i think i'm close to what is happening there now.

Definitely sounds like Adam is talking about the Adelaide mob. FTA Brisbane might not be everyones cup of tea, but I've never heard a bad word spoken about them as employers from any of the many instructors I know that have worked there over the years.

Have heard that the flying is plentiful and the pay is ok. The school is freaking enormous so getting used to being a pilot in a company of that scale after a regular flying school would take getting used to (particularly with standardisation). No theory instruction as its all done by a full time ground instructor. If you're with the airline cadets then communication can be difficult to frustrating. As mentioned before, good place to build hours. Just don't get caught there too long in the current climate.

Check if you have to start at AFTC first, if you do , then its about 20 bucks an hour of flying and just under 17 buck sitting behind the desk. Bad wx for a week and you will be taking home about 250bucks for 2 weeks. Rent alone will be more than that so get all the info and get it in black and white.
But for hours building i could not recomend a better place. Adelaide is a lot cheaper than other capitals in OZ.
Good Luck.
