Aus CPL Met EXAM
I am just about to book in to do my CPL Met exam, and would like to see if anyone can shed some light on the test, and the best practice tests to do to prepare for it.
Is it all m/choice, how many questions?
I searched for the syllabus or a breakdown of the test on CASA but I got lost and gave up.
Any advice would be great.
I tried rob avery practice tests, but i didn't like them.
Cheers!

gday mate
try the online cyberexams available from bob tait's online store (and aft i believe also)
the cyberexams are in the same format as the real exam, and you will get a really good idea of how you are going, and what topics you really need to revise from completing them
also, some questions from the practice exams pop up in the real thing! coincidence or what i am not sure... but it sure makes some questions easier
but yes, i cannot recommend them enough - used them for my past 6 CPL subjects and have averaged well over 90%
as for the exam - all multi choice, around about 40 questions or so i believe... pass mark of 70%
good luck, study hard - its really not as bad as you think

40 questions... sometimes, the problem is the less questions they ask, the easier it is to fail

Bob Tait is your man
Gday, would definitely recommend Bob Tait cyber practice exams over all the others. Bob's textbooks are well worth the effort as well, I've been using the ATC books and have found them to be not nearly as good and my marks in Gen Knowledge and Human Factors suffered.
I sat the Met exam on the 7th and passed with a 93% thanks to Bob.
The CASA site has the exam details for all exams - you should check this out if you haven't already. However, not that it isn't always 40 questions - my exam was only 34.
Focus on the practical interpretation of AFORS and TAFs etc as there is a heavy emphasis in the exam on these.
Good Luck
Cheers

yes i just bought the bob tait online ones...
didn't like the rob avery ones... i even found a question that was incorrect, couldn't believe it.
Would you advise buying bobs human factors / gen knowledge?
I bought the ATC set, and regret it as i started with bobs bak book and also his ppl book.

thanks, yes i did bob taits cybertests, didn't like how you can't see what you got wrong and why. Kind of defeats the purpose if you can't figure out what you did wrong even after referencing the section in the text book. May be because I have the ATC books but I think i prefer written tests.
I ended up taking screen shots each question, so i can figure out what i got wrong and yeah that worked pretty well.
So which subject is hardest, i havent even opened some of my books yet, got this huge performance and planning one (still in plastic) , looks like a hard one?

I found performance and planning fairly straight forward... although there is a bit of content, if your good with numbers its not that difficult. I personally found aerodynamics more tricky myself!
Good luck

Theres the syllabus
Scroll down a bit til you get to met. I studied all my exams by pretending the syllabus points were questions, then writing a big answer for it. Didn't get too many surprises that way, but to each his own, if something else works for you...

I read Bobs book and did the prac exams at the end of the book, took the PCA chart in but without the Sydney WAC and managed 98%. The WAC is required so you have an idea where the great divide is. Get a good grasp on interpreting/decoding the forecasts and how long they're valid for and need to be valid for. And what the alternate requirements are, and general stuff regarding winds, cloud types etc. I enjoyed it, it has definite answers and questions, and they tend not to be debatable like some of the other subjects. spew
